Changing a vw starter?

we are about to replace the starter on our 2001 VW jetta before we sell it (hopefully very soon). we don't wanna pay for installation so that's why we're doing it ourselves. any tips on this process? is it complicated?? thanks in advance!
Changing a vw starter?
no its kind of easy you'll need

1.metric 3\8 ratchet and socket set

2.disconnect battery negative terminal.

3.set of metric wrenches.

4.small jack and stands.

5.good drop light.

6.most auto part stores will test it for free once removed.

7.they will also test and or charge your battery for you.
Changing a vw starter?
Starters generally are quite simple. First thing.....disconnect the battery clamp(at least the negative post).

Most VW's are worked on from the underside when parts(or the engine) is installed. Use metric wrenches....10,13,15,17.

As was mentioned, the parts shops will bench test the starter to see if that is the problem. (More often than not, it is a weak battery.) 3 wires tops. Big and small. Can't bugger it there.

Follow the positive cable down to the starter. They are held in with 2 or 3 bolts. Disconnect the battery first then take the wires of the starter and the bolts out. Then take it to Auto Zone and have it tested if it's bad then replace it.

Look in the area right under the engine, its should look like this-http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/co鈥?/a>

Then there should be two or three bolts holding it up to the engine, also two wires held on to it by screws. Take those off as well. Replacement, just do everything in reverse order.

Look for a vacuum leak, try spraying some WD 40 around the engine (while it's running), when it hits the leak the motor sound will change...

Where is and how to I change the starter on a 96 Egale Vision.?

I need to replace the starter on my car and money is tight. I may not know the technical names of things but I can do it. I just don't know where it is. (I have not lifted the car yet). I have the bigger litter engin. anything will be nice. I don't think I have a book nor could afford one.

Open the hood and follow the ( + ) positive cable off the battery down wright to the starter.

REMOVE THE ( - ) NEGITIVE CABLE from the battery.

There is eather 2 or 3 bolts to remove the starter.

Once you drop it down. Remove the cables and it's out.

When installing make sure no cables or wires touch the engine or exhaust.

I've checked the battery, which is fine. Do I need to change the starter, or can it be something else? I first though that the starter didn't get eough power, but now I'm not sure.
I've a 75 Chevy Camaro. When I turn the key, the starter doesn't run, but makes a ticking noice. What's wrong?
You either have bad connections at the battery or the starter, battery is weak, cables corroded inside increasing amperage needed to turn starter over, the ticking sound is the bendix trying to engage the starter but not enough power to it.
I've a 75 Chevy Camaro. When I turn the key, the starter doesn't run, but makes a ticking noice. What's wrong?
How did you check the battery? Just because it shows 12 volts doesn't mean that it has the amps to turn it. Try jumping it, with another vehicle. It could be the starter, It could be stuck or frozen, very popular in chevrolet starters in the 70's and 80's. If you can tap on it with a hammer , while someone tries to turn the key, it will usually start %26quot;if the starter is stuck%26quot;. But if its fried, you just need a new starter, I'm guessing battery still though.
A ticking starter usually indicates a discharged battery or possibly a bad starter. How did you test the battery? Did you try jump starting the car? Take the battery to your local automotive store and have them test it for you. They can even charge it overnight for free. After you've eliminated the battery as the culprit, I'd look at the starter next. Happy starting!
try to jump start it.if it still clicks its the starter solenoid.replace the starter.
it sounds like a bad solenoid to me you can try tapping on it while someone try's to crank it....or try to stick a screwdriver between the posts on the solenoid to jump from 1 post to the other and if she cranks then you know you got a bad 1 ......if it dont crank then you got another problem or your starter is froze .you can have it checked if you take the starter off the car and take it to any autoparts store and they can check it to see if its any good

Where can i find a how to to change a starter for a 1967 Comaro RS?

With or with out header? If you have headers then you鈥檙e going to have to loosen the header to get the starter out. Other wise just prop the front of the car up on jack stands loosen and remove the positive battery cable from the battery. crawl under the car and locate the starter (Should be passenger side at the back of the motor. remove the battery cable from the starter and any other cables that may be attached. move to the side. Now remove the upper and lower fasteners (bolts) from the starter. Holding the starter with 2 hands slowly pull the starter back and out of the hole. The starter will be heavy so use two hands. Installation is the reverse. While you have the starter out, now would be a good time to replace that aging positive battery cable that runs to the start. A fresh cable will give you the maximum Power needed to turn the new starter.

How do i jack up a 89 ford aerostar i gotta change starter?
    Hello

If you have to ask such a question, I am sure you should not attempt the repair. If you proceed, count your fingers when the job is finished. Good luck!
How do i jack up a 89 ford aerostar i gotta change starter?
use a floor jack or the jack that came with the vehicle, BUT, make sure you use jack stands or some kind of safe blocking so it won't fall on you, squish!!!!
Usually the strongest point to jack a car via its body is between the front tire and the front doors. If you look unter you will see a place where the body joints meet with the frame.

You can put the jack there to lift it, one side at a time. Put something under the rear tire to keep the car from moving backwards. Use locking jackstands near the same spot at where you lifted with the jack to hold up the car.

Also put the car in gear and apply the E-brake. Once both sides are up and the jackstands are in place, you can remove the starter.

Be careful! A car can slip off a jack or the stands and cruch whatevers is underneath. if you are not sure, get a pro to help.

Here is a link that will help...

    Ummmm.... with a jack?
Dont jack it up. Use ramps.
    Very carefully
Get a cheap set of car ramps or build some thing out of wood or roll it to a ditch. If its up on a jack and it slips your dead.(maybe just maimed) But if you got to ask then your new at this game.

unhook the battery... then unhook the wires going to the starter then unbolt the starter and remove... to reinstall you reverse the steps... depending on the location of the starter you may have to remove first and then remove the wires.. not that it makes a big difference...

  • What is the easiest way to change a starter on a 1996 toyota tacoma 4x4 with a 3.4L engine?

Your starter is not bad. What's bad is the contacts/brushes in side the starter. Don't spend $300+ for parts and labor when you can spend $10 for the contacts/brush. It's really simple to take out.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Locate the starter. Take off 2-3 bolts and navigate the starter thru (there are some obstacle you'll have to bypass). Remove two screws on top of the starter to open the covers. You will see the starter plunger. You will also see the copper contacts. Remove and replace and put everything back together.

if you have no idea of what I just said, you are better off taking it to the shop and have them rebuild the starter. It's cheaper that buying a new starter trust me.
What is the easiest way to change a starter on a 1996 toyota tacoma 4x4 with a 3.4L engine?
if you have some automotive experience go to a Napa or advanced auto parts and order a starter and do it yourself... but the easiest way and fastest way would be to just take it to a shop but then you'll have to pay 80-120 bucks an hour for labor. If you need the Tacoma running ASAP better take it to a shop, but if it can sit for a week or two until you figure it out and get it done just do it yourself

1993 s-10 blazer STILL wont start. Last time asked the common response was that the starter was bad....?

So, I changed out the starter with a new one....same thing. Before I changed that starter it was getting to where it wouldn't even click anymore. Just nothing.... Now that I put the new starter in...same thing...no noise, no click, nothing. And no starting..lol. What would be the next thing in line to check as to why it won't kick over. Battery is good, car has gas...lol.

    thanks, Eric

try cleaning the battery terminals then check for loose wires
1993 s-10 blazer STILL wont start. Last time asked the common response was that the starter was bad....?
ignition switch .not the key.or the cyl. .

make sure you have the wires correct on the starter first.

the switch is in the steering colum.
The electrical connections should have been the first thing to check, then the starter solenoid. Before buying a new starter you should have removed the old one %26amp; had it tested.
    Well since you're into replacing parts instead of testing...replace the neutral safety switch on the tranny%26gt;
The ignition switch (key) on the steering column is probably bad.
    Trouble shooting trick;

Try using a screwdriver to arc from where the battery's + lead connects to the starter solenoid over to the smaller connection where the wire from your starter switch lands on the solenoid. Be careful not to hit anything else with the screw driver, because you could cause a direct ground short and start welding the screwdriver to things.

If your battery is good, the engine should crank over.

I shouldn't have to say this, but make sure the transmission is in park, (autos,) or neutral, with the brake set, (standards.)

You mention there's no click, no noise, nothing, which points us in the direction of an electrical problem, which can be the most frustrating of all.

Use a multimeter to %26quot;ohm out,%26quot; the continuity of your battery leads from the - lead to the block and the + lead to the the the actual stud on the starter where the lead connects. Not to the nut, not to the lead, but to the actual threaded stud. You might have to employ some alligator clips and lead extensions. Anything less than 1.6 ohms of resistance on either lead and you should be golden.

You can buy a multimeter at almost any parts store for about

$10. And the ohm function is the upside down horseshoe, use it on the lowest setting for ringing out wires.

    Beyond that, you have a couple other common culprits;

Lockout switches, which prevent you from starting the engine without depressing the clutch or with the automatic transmisison in any gear other than park or neutral can fail. You can test this by using more alligator clips and wire to jumper around them for testing purposes.

If I recall correctly, which has also been duly noted, the column mounted ignition switches in systems like that tend to go bad. (I've had one fail while I was driving down the road. It took me months to find the problem.) When you turn the key to the start position, you're actually pushing a rod that runs down the top of your steering column that depresses a switch, completing the circuit to the starter solenoid. They are a pain in the @ss to replace, but it can be done.

Another possibility is a relay. Many vehicles use a relay to engage the starter. Power comes off the positive terminal of the battery, (actually it likely comes from the starter or another convenient distribution center,) to the disconnect switches. When the switches are closed, (trans in park, nuetral or clutch depressed,) it energizes a coil closing the switch inside the relay and allows power from the start switch to pass out to the solenoid, engaging the starter.

Relays can cost anywhere from $3 - $15. As long as you match the flow pattern, you're good. You can check the relay by jumpering across the receptacles for the start circuit and seeing if the engine cranks. (The relay will have a diagram on the top of it to tell you which receptacles to jumper across.)

Another possibility, is that you have a broken wire. Which means chasing wires for a day or so. Been there done that, and it's not much fun.

And last, but not least, check fuses. I had a 1999 C1500 with a misprinted fuseblock diagram. I had to pull every single fuse in the block to find the little 10 amp fuse that was blown.

Hope I helped and don't forget, Haynes and Chilton's manuals are your best friends. It's cheaper to buy one of them than it is to replace parts until the problem goes away.

    Best of luck,

    DGI

Just changed the starter on a 96 Bravada, still wont fire up?

Its not the spark either, could it be a regulator?
Just changed the starter on a 96 Bravada, still wont fire up?
If the crankshaft position sensor and the camshaft sensor is out the vehicle wont get a spark. Your question wasn't detailed enough. Are you saying it wouldn't crank is that why you put the starter in. Most of the time it is a sensor. And you need to invest around 80 dollars at the parts store and buy an ODB ii scanner to find out witch sensor it is.

well the hardest part of this starter is the third scroll on top is hard to reach it but other than that is easy. And to mount back up is even easy-er just don't put the third scroll lol

How do I change my starter?

I have a 1990 chevy corsica, how do i replace my starter? Does anyone know step by step, or possibly know of a website.
How do I change my starter?
Go find a Haynes repair manual if you really want to tackle this yourself. It will have step by step instructions and pictures of a tear-down and re-build of the whole vehicle, so it will cover every repair you can possibly do, not just replacing the starter. Be aware that a starter replaced in a shop will have parts and labour warranty. Replace it yourself, and you only have parts warranty, and that doesn't cover any mistakes you make.
How do I change my starter?
whether it is a 4cylinder or a 6cylinder the operation is still the same.1)disconnect the battery 2)raise and support front of car leaving the front area betweem the wheels open. 3)use 10mm socket or wrench to remove 3 bolts that hold the splash shield for the flexplate(flywheeel). 4) use 15mm socket to remove 2 bolts that secure starter to engine block. 5)support starter and remove 8mm and 13mm nut holding starter wires to starter.6)you are done 7)reverse to install
first make sure you disconnect the battery. ALWAYS NEGATIVE FIRST. ALWAYS. then jack up vehicle and place on jack stands. or if you have ramps, even easier. just be careful when pulling up on them not to go too fast (fast enough, but not too fast) so you dont fall off other end. once in the air, starter should be towards front (depending on which engine you have). access the 2 bolts holding it in place. again depending on engine, you may have to take off a plastic cover or 2 on bottom where eng and tranny meet to access bolts. after dropping starter down, hold it. disconnect the small lead wire/s (noting its location and position) then disconnect the main power wire/s. the small nut should be either a 5/16%26quot; (most common) or like 11/32%26quot;. the big 1 should be 1/2 %26quot; or 13mm (most common) or maybe 9/16 or 5/8. reverse to install. if shims are included, start with no shims. if noisy on start up, then add shims as needed ( starting with smallest of course). oh the bolts holding starter in are usually 15mm. i hope that helps.

get a digital camera. take off the air cleaner and snap a few pictures and download to your computer. take some more off, take pictures and download. after you get the intake off and install the starter, start going together with it, if you get stuck, look at your pics.
How do i change a starter in a 1998 cadillac deville.?
Sounds like the Northstar V-8. If you want to do this yourself, you will need a few items.

    1) intake gaskets

    2) new coolant

    3) starter

    4) lots of patience

First thing is to drain the coolant. remove the fuel rails, all the other vacuum hoses, electrical connectors and such. then remove the manifold. once that's off the starter is easy. Just try to label everything before you start so there's no confusion when you put it all back.

    Good luck with that.
i dont know on that car. try getting a chilton's or hayne's repair manual and follow those directions. either is a good investment if you plan on working on your car yourself.
It's an expensive part, and will run you between $200 and $300 just for the part. But you don't need to remove air intakes to get to it.

Put the car up on ramps, or jack it up and use stands. Remove the negative battery terminal. Remove the wires from the old starter, remove the 3 bolts and slide it out. Reverse that to install the new one.

It comes out from underneath, of course.
As I sit here laughing, I can't imangine what type of experience you have in the automotive field. {nothing against you} The other individual the suggested for you to get the intake set and associated parts, is right; however, he did not mention that engine has a plastic intake, and the gasket set is a real pickle if not installed correctly. Furthermore, if you over torq the intake, that is if you were successful in getting the starter in, be sure not to crack the intake.

Oh, and you would also need to release the pressure on the fuel rail and dump the power. Not a bad job if your doing it for a living, but I have had to re-due one for a customer that... you guessed it, cracked the upper intake. yea, he also busted some of the molded plastic emission tubes. The get brittle with age.

    Good Luck
Why do people answer these all to often legitamate questions , asked by legitamate people wanting a legitamate answer when they are not familiar with the topic. Why would anybody put a caddy with a north star on jack stands to remove the intake manifold. That one beets me.

It could be your ignition switch or neutral safety switch.

Could be those switches, but I have that issue on my blazer, pretty sure the gear is worn and catching on the flywheel when getting pushed into place... It also may have a loose bolt on the starter, however unlikely that may be.

I have a 1998 Saturn SC2,on which I changed the starter myself. Now the speedometer does not work, and?
the speed-o-meter is most likely electronic, and most likely runs off of a speed sensor. the wire should be a 2 wire item located on the trans axle close to one of the axle shafts, though not necessarily. you may have knocked the wires loose or inadvertantly caused a short in that wire while working on that starter.

thats a little long for 2 bolts and a wire. i could have the starter off in 10 min drive my other truck to get a new one and be back in less than a hour and have the new one on. i have a 99 explorer and a mercury moutaineer witch is the same thing. they are ripping you off on the man hours
seems reasonable. the labour book said it was 3 hours for the starter on my sonoma. the mechanic didn't believe me said it was a 1.5 hour job so he made me a quote. came back 20 minutes later to tell me it was gonna take 3 hours cuz he had to drop the exhaust to get to the starter.

1.5 hours is normal for a starter that's not too hard to get to.

2.4 hours for an explorer seems reasonable. i had one with a 4.0litre there's not a lot of room for anything under that engine.
That sounds about right. I've done the job myself in a matter of 45 minutes, however, that was because the bolts came out easily and I didn't put everything back in place the same way is if it was from the factory. Most shops have a 2-hour minimum. They also have to allow for any complications that come up as a result of working on the car such as a different type of electrical connection and then they have to test the solenoid and the connection that comes from the ignition switch to make sure that these items are not bad also.
Did the book tell you that is 2.4 hrs for a person with two left hands?

  • My dodge neon 95 wont start and it aint the battery or starter or wire what?

we looked at the battery and it wasnt that, we did change the starter, and the neon still wont start. we turn the key on and it wont even make a noise. somebody told us it was the fuse but im not sure. whats the best way to tell its the alternator or fuse or what else do you think it will be thank you ver much
My dodge neon 95 wont start and it aint the battery or starter or wire what?
well a no power is definitely not the alternator......that may also b bad but that's not the problem.....and yes it sounds like the main fuse under the hood.....also pull the battery out and have it charged/tested.....and then check all the battery cable connections.....at the battery at the fuse box at the starter.......if its none of those then its most likely the ignition switch itself .......good luck

Replacing the starter on a 1999 Nissan Frontier 2.4L w/AT transmission?

I'm willing to spend an entire day carefully replacing my own starter. Will I need one of those Haynes/Chilton manuals for the job?

Anyone with experience changing the starter on this particular model? Any tips or suggestions?
Replacing the starter on a 1999 Nissan Frontier 2.4L w/AT transmission?
No manual needed however the job is not all that fun. if you do not have 12mm open and box ended wrench 14mm universal wobble sockets and a whole selection of extensions and good wratcher handle. You will run into problems even seeing the top starter bolt. Starter is on the passengers side under the intake manifold you will have to work under and thru the wheel well rubber flap removed. So jack and stands will be needed. two 14mm bolts one 12mm nut holding the big battery wire. and one gray plastic plug. Awakard location heavy compact starter motor. Good Luck

How to change a starter on a vehicle?

remove the negative battery cable, find the starter, remove the wiring, unbolt the starter, install new starter in reverse order, clean and bandage wounds and kick yourself in the a s s for not paying someone to do it for you.
How to change a starter on a vehicle?
    Depends on the vehicle.
How to change a starter on a vehicle?
    It ain't too hard

the starter is located near the flywheel

has 2 bolts usually and a few wires to take loose

be sure to replace the heat shield if it comes with one

it is a pain in the pa toot to line up the holes but the starter will last longer
1.1st disconnect the battery cables from the battery. (to prevent electrical shock)

2a Locate the starter (probably low side of engine flywheel hsg)

2b You will probably need to raise up the vehicle (prefer a hydraulic jack, use jack stands once it is raised

    3. Remove mounting bolts. (usually2)

    4. Disconnect electrical wires

    5. Disengage from flywheel and remove

    6. Replace in reverse order

PS There may be other components that need to be disconnected or lossened to either gain access to the starter and/or remove the starter. All depends on make and model.

Check several other parts before you decide it's time to change the starter.

Check the condition of the battery. A weak battery can't turn the starter over. Make sure the battery is at full strength before you blame the starter. Your car's instrument cluster should indicate when there is a low battery with either a warning light or ammeter.

Also check the battery connections, the wires going to the starter, and the starter connection. The most important wire is the big one running down the back of the battery. It is the wire that goes from the battery to the starter. All connections should be snug. Check that the insulation on the wires is intact. Tighten any connections loose enough to wiggle by hand.

Check the starter solenoid. The starter solenoid is a special switch that turns the starter on and off. Solenoids rarely cost more than $10, and they are fairly easy to replace. When you turn the key, have a friend listen to the solenoid for a clicking sound. If there's no sound, assume the solenoid is broken and needs to be replaced.

If the engine is turning over and still won't start, it might be due to another problem unrelated to the starter or battery. Anything from a dirty air filter, worn spark plugs, bad spark plug wires, a worn distributor cap, insufficient fuel reaching the engine or even blown gaskets can prevent a car from starting. If you can't isolate the problem through trial and error, it may be time to take the car to a mechanic.

How do i change my starter on my 1989 C1500?

I bought a new battery and tested my altanater its pushin 14 amps. everything is connected and clean from what i can tell. the only thing i can think of is it being my starter i turn the key and only one click thats it so how do i change my starter and if you think its something else let me know thank
How do i change my starter on my 1989 C1500?
look under the the truck on the passenger side i think near the exaust pipes inbetween the engine and tranny there will be a large round black thing about the size of a 32 oz drink container.. three wires going into it i believe and four bolts remove the bolt and wires..
How do i change my starter on my 1989 C1500?
do you have the battery hooked up correctly? if you think so, to change your starter, unhook the battery, climb under the truck...................... do you know what the starter looks like? if so take out the 2 bolts, then take off the power cables, put the power cables on the new starter, and put it back on. the starter is the easiest thing to change man, if you dont know how to do that, you might want to let someone else check things out before you start ripping perfectly good stuff off of your truck. then ask them what was wrong. Learn by example
I would check your cables going to the starter. Starters normally give you a warning that they are going to fail but cables can fail without warning. If you have to change the starter,,,,disconnect they neg battery cable(both cables is better) and remove the wires connecting the starter. Then remove the mounting bolts ( there is normally 3) and wiggle the starter out and stick the new one in and bolt it up and reattach the wires and cables.
Frustrating isn't it? Look at the ground connection to the frame. If there is corrosion, it will keep the current from passing through the system. This is a failure point of vehicles that are as old as yours. If that is all clean, then you probably will have to go for a starter. Within the starter, there normally is two things that go bad. The solenoid has a contact internally and they will get non-conductive from normal arcing in use. The other thing is the brushes in the starter. Being soft carbon they will wear with time. In today's market, get a lifetime guaranteed rebuilt starter if you have to replace it. Be sure to disconnect the ground cable from the battery or you will get a big shower of sparks. On my 95 I had to loosen one motor mount to raise the engine enough for the starter to come out. All depends on the engine and exhaust configuration. Should be two and on some three bolts that hold it to the block at the flywheel. On some models they are different lengths so pay attention to which came from where. Just reverse the steps when going back in. If there are shims, be sure to put them back in,
a starter is always located on the transmision on the fly wheel or flex-plate. no matter what vehicle! on a chevy they coulnt be anymore simple to change. look under the vehicle on the passenger side on the trans. or go to a chiltons manual. good luck
the starter solenoid grounds through the starter brushes when current is applied through the ignition switch. so if it clicks at all it won't be the starter brushes. Turn the head lights on bright and have someone try to start the vehicle. If the headlights go out while trying to crank the engine then you most likely have a bad battery connection. If they stay bright then it is most likely the solenoid.

need to change the starter on my 85 jimmy 4x4 with the 2.8 v6 I have been told I have to lossen the motor mound to get the starter out is this true and how long should it take.
How to change the starter on a 85 GMC jimmy 4x4 ?
Remove the bolt on the motor mount Only the side that the starter is on first then get a floor jack and a block of wood using the jack and wood to raise the engine from the bottom

this will tilt the engine to one side allowing the clearance needed to pull the starter out. then just start removing the starter

it should take 2 hr or less if you prep your tools needed first.

Hopefully you also disconnected the battery? Also you need to remove any connecting wires. The with bolts removed and all wires disconnected pull it straight out. You may have to giggle it a bit to get it started.

I changed the starter on my 2002 grand -am and now sometimes it just just clicks?

i checked all the wiring and it has a new battery and i also put another new starter on it and it does the same thing. does anyone know what would be wrong with it, the old starter didnt do it.
I changed the starter on my 2002 grand -am and now sometimes it just just clicks?
did you replace just the starter? because you should have replaced both the starter, and the solenoid (little mini starter looking thing bolted on the side of the starter. a clicking may be from your battery. try turning your headlights on when cranking your car, if they dim, its a battery issue, in which case i would also check the alternator to make sure its keeping the battery charged
I changed the starter on my 2002 grand -am and now sometimes it just just clicks?
have you checked the wiring that goes from the ignition to your solenoid because it may be loose. it could look fine but the terminal itself may need to be tightened up. good luck :)

Where is the starter located on a 2000 Lincoln LS V6?
the starter is on the pass side. but it more then likely is not the starter that's at fault. there is a connector under the carpet below the brake peddle that comes loose. check that first.

need help asap,I bought it as a refurbished 1
I changed my starter and now it makes a grinding noise, like its already been started and u try and start it ag?
Your starter is too close to the flywheel, you'll have to install shims between the starter and bellhousing. Ask for shims at your local auto parts store (tell them what it's for). You'll have to keep adding shims until the grinding noise stops.
I changed my starter and now it makes a grinding noise, like its already been started and u try and start it ag?
sounds like it might need a shim added so that it is not so deep into the flywheel . Also make sure the holes are not slotted and the starter just needs adjusting. The starter gear and flywheel are not lined up properly . they is why the noise .. You need to fix or it will break teeth off the fly wheel and cost several hundred dollars to replace..
    wrong starter ,,,,

    may need shims,,,,,

also chedk for slotted mounting holes,,,,,

but if its a reman,,,, double check its the right starter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Changing a starter for 1969 mustang coupe?

Always disconnect the negative battery cable from battery first. then posotive if you want.

under the car, remove or at least loosen the posotive battery wire where it connects to starter. (in case the wrench were to touch ground you'd have a spark show now if you hadn't already disconnected the negative/groung terminal from the battery. this also applies up top on the battery ALWAYS DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE FIRST!!!) remove the two starter bolts and remove the starter. even with most headers the starter still comes out. stock exhast manifolds it comes out easily.

install new starter in reverse order.

First, unhook the positive lead on the battery terminal. Get underneath the car and loosen the bolts and remove the wires and pull it off, get a new one and reinstall it. Hook it back up and go for a ride.
Changing a starter for 1969 mustang coupe?
it would help to know which engine it has in it,either way it has to be done from the bottom of it,that's the easiest way on this one, there should be a few bolts holding it on,and be sure and disconnect the battery before you do this, good luck.
It does not matter what engine it has in it.

There are only 2 bolts that hold that starter on, and a nut for the hot wire.

The bolts are 3/8'' you need a 9/16%26quot; wrench.

One of the mounting bolts might be a little harder to get at.

Use a ratchet and extention, and 9/16%26quot; socket if needed.

Same size or smaller wrench for the hot wire.

Remove the Positive cable from the battery, jack up the car and put safety stands under it, remove the hot wire from the old starter, remove the two mounting bolts, pull starter straight out from the flywheel housing.

Make sure to clean the flywheel housing with a piece of sand paper. Or the new starter will not have a good ground.

Install the new starter in the reverse manner of removal.
Make sure you get the right starter, automatics and manuals have different housings (a long day in a parking lot taught me that). Then disconnect the battery, crawl under the car on the passenger side and locate the stater. Disconnect the wires to the starter if possible because you don't want to drop the started and have them stop the fall. Plus it will probably still pop you in the face. Now remove the bolts that hold it to the bell housing.

Depending on how long the wiring is it may be easier to attach the wires before reinstalling. Otherwise revers all the above instructions. Reconnect the battery and your good to go.

Again make sure you get the right starter before you start.

The car is acting as if the battery is dead but the battery has been checked and it is fine.
    How do i change a starter in a 2001 Dodge Stratus R/T?
I would make sure that in addition to checking the battery that you check the leads, positive and negative coming to the battery. Sometimes these leads get corroded so badly that you can't see the corrosion on the outside, but inside they're shorting out your system. As far as the starter, get a Haynes manual and it gives you a step by step procedure on how to change the starter. You can pick one up at auto zone. I subscribe to a service called alldata.com and it gives step by step repair procedures. Its not free.
    How do i change a starter in a 2001 Dodge Stratus R/T?
Disconnect the battery, remove the wires going to the starter, remove the bolts holding the starter into the engine and remove starter, reverse this order to reinstall.

Try tapping on the starter with a small hammer, if it is jammed, then this will release it and start the car. But you still need to replace the starter.

My 1999 ford taurus wont start i changed the starter and the alternator and got a new battery?

    Need more details.

The vehicle needs 'fire' and 'fuel' in the right proportions, at the right time.

I am assuming from the parts you have replaced that you strongly believe there is an electrical problem. As in the engine NOT turning over adequately under ignition.

It is possible that one of the replaced parts could be defective from the 'parts' shop, especially if they are discount or rebuilt.

    If you are initially getting good 'turnover' speed under ignition you might check;

-are you getting adequate spark at each plug (approx. 30,000 volts) be careful here

-are you getting fuel into the cyclinders

    - ignition timing

    possibly computer chip (very expensive)

    If NOT getting good 'turnover';

    - could engine may be 'siezed'

    - possibly broken serpentine belt

You might also rent/purchase a 'code reader' and decipher the engine codes which should give a good indication. Once power has been disconnected (as in battery replacement) the 'chip' resets the memory, thus clearing the codes.

There is a 'switch' generally located in the trunk that disable the fuel pump on EFI models if 'jarred' (as in a collision) as a 'safety' device.

Bad alternator (not charging the battery) or a bad battery (not accepting or holding the charge from the alternator)
I have a 91' ford ranger and i put in a new starter but it still won't start. What's wrong with it.?
Hmmm, tough to say. If you are sure you installed the starter correctly you might want to consider looking at the alternator. Perhaps there is a short.
I have a 91 ranger as well and just replaced the altenator because of the same thing you are explaining put a full charge on the battery and take it to the parts store they can probably test the altanator for you about 160.00 for the part.
I'm with Kirk , probably a dead cell in your battery, If you have a Autozone in your area they'll check your battery %26amp; alternator and tell you what you need...just have to jump it again and drive it down there, good luck.

How do I change the starter on a 1999 4runner.?

I dont want to spend the money on a munual, does anyone know of a website that gives you a step by step breakdown for free.
How do I change the starter on a 1999 4runner.?
AutoZone will probably give you the procedures when you buy a starter, if you really need one.

I am assuming you know where the starter is and what it looks like. Remove the positive (red) cable from the battery. Then remove (and mark) the wires from the starter. It will likely have 2-4 bolts holding it on. Remove these bolts, and pull the starter forward. It should come right out. Take it and have it tested before you buy a new one; sometimes that isn't really the problem. Installation is the reverse. When you put the starter into the hole, you may have to turn it slightly to engage the gears.

    Good luck!
How do I change the starter on a 1999 4runner.?
There are no web sites, but you can try your local library. they may have what you need for free. First disconnect the neg. side of the battery as this is the ground side first. when you buy the starter buy a good one and then ask for some instruction to install. Some may be in the box, but as mentioned have your old one tested first. This is free. When installing do not over tighten the electrical connections as these are soft metal. Go slow and mark you wires. Be prepared to get greasy as starters being at the bottom are usually a mess.

No, I had an 88 toyota 4x4 truck and replaced the starter fairly easily but I reached it thru the wheel well, it had to come foward and up thru the top it was a liitle aggravating but not bad nothing was removed or lifted. the truck should be the same as the 4runner.
Do i have to lift my motor a bit in my 1988 toyota 4runner to get the starter out?
Are you absolutely sure the starter is the problem?? NEVER replace any part till you know the problem. If your truck don't start I would bet it's not the starter. What is the problem ? maybe you can save a lot of effort and $$$

    Starter on 92 GMC Sonoma?

How do I go about changing the starter on my 1992 GMC Sonoma? It is hard as heck to get back in there to turn the bolts. I have never seen a starter on an older vehicle that was this hard to access. I have changed starters before, but this one I am having difficulty with. Can anyone tell me what is the best way to do this?
    Starter on 92 GMC Sonoma?
What size engine do you have and also is it 2wd or 4wd.........I will wait..

If equipped, loosen the retaining bolts and remove the skid plate.

Remove the retainers and the brackets holding the brake line to the crossmember located just behind the oil pan.

Reposition the brake line slightly in order to clear the crossmember.

Remove the crossmember retaining bolts, there are usually 3 on each side, then carefully lower the crossmember and remove it from the vehicle for access.

As applicable and necessary, remove the bracket holding the transmission fluid cooler lines to the flywheel housing, brace rod to the flywheel housing and/or the lower flywheel housing.

Remove the starter-to-engine block bolts. When removing the last bolt, be sure to support the starter to keep it from falling and possibly injuring you.

On some vehicles, even with the crossmember removed clearance for starter removal is tight. As the starter is lowered, it may be necessary to rotate it upside down in order for the end to clear the motor mount, then lower the nose behind the bell housing and rotate it back so the solenoid is on top and the starter may be removed.

Carefully lower the starter and shims (if equipped) from the vehicle.

well this one is a pain...you need take take apart the back bolt of the half shaft in order to get it out..you need to go on the passenger side tire and take the wire bolt off of it and then you shoulld be able to take it out...ive taken many out of my brothers 94 s10 blazer they are a pain...

if you have a 2.2l you have to drop the exhaust from the manifold in order to change the starter. Hope this helps and goos luck.

What is the difference between a ss2 and fs2 florescent tube starter?

i have an ikea twin tube kitchen light which started flickering so changed the tube still flickered so changed the starters but was told the fs2 starter was the same as the ss2 it was replacing.the lights wont come on at all now and no where has the ss2 starters for sale-help!
What is the difference between a ss2 and fs2 florescent tube starter?
It sounds like it's the wrong starter and the person selling you it doesn't really know what they're on about. An FS2 starter is meant for tubes 2ft and below, I can only guess that SS2 is an own branded part number for a universal starter (FSU) which if I'm guessing right is the one you want. If it is the main kitchen light which is probably about 4ft-5ft then that's the type you want (FSU) not the FS2. If you need any more info let me know
What is the difference between a ss2 and fs2 florescent tube starter?
Its possible that you could have a bad ballast too. It must be an old fixture though to still use starters, most all modern fixtures now use electronic ballasts. I'd put up a new, more efficient electronic fixture that uses T8 bulbs. No more hassle with starters and filckering lights, and save a few dollars on the electric bill.

How do you change the starter on a 2004 Chevy Impala?

A link to online instructions would be helpful. About how much can I expect to pay for the part? How much would a mechanic charge for labor? Thanks all
How do you change the starter on a 2004 Chevy Impala?
go to autozone online look up the part then click the part it has detailed instructions and pix also the price should be cheapest there
How do you change the starter on a 2004 Chevy Impala?
Depending on if you want a factory part or an aftermarket, the price would range anywhere from $350 to $175. Remove the negative battery cable, raise the car and remove 2 10mm bolts that hold the inspection cover from the flywheel area. remove the 2 15mm starter bolts, remove the wires from the starter. Install new starter.

Labor would be approx. 1 hour X shop labor rate.

Try the site in my sources. It has many programs in the toolbox section (I am linking to one with the editor in it). One of the threads (cannot remember which one at the time) has a program that will let you edit the ROMS starting Pokemon.

Now, realize that ROMS ARE illegal. However, the programs on this site were coded by hand for use by the general public, so it should follow community guidelines.

Sadly, the program I found requires that you join the site to download it

How long should i wait to change my starter barbell to a regular one?

i got my tongue pierced 2 weeks ago, and i'm debating on whether or not i should change it to a regular stud now.
How long should i wait to change my starter barbell to a regular one?
It takes on average 3 months for a tongue piercing to fully heal- give or take. It heals from the outside in, so we often think that it is healed-when it really isn't. Considering that....waiting 4-6 weeks to change your barbell is ideal. But of course, that extra long barbell is annoying!!

If you really can't handle the barbell anymore- go back to your piercer for a shorter one. It will be properly sterilized and you won't be risking an infection. Plus, you will get the right size.

If you can wait though, then you can just change it yourself in another 2-4 weeks.

Hmm...I don't really remember much 'oozing'...but I would say that after 10 full days, I saw and felt a great improvement.

Just a warning- I waited 6 weeks to change my barbell to a shorter one, and when I did, the new ball had to re-set the groove in my tongue because the other one was so long that the balls no longer touched it- and it's really uncomfortable.

    Good Luck :)

    http://www.safepiercing.org/
How long should i wait to change my starter barbell to a regular one?
it took about a week for it to stop completely oozing

and less then 2 weeks to completely heal (Y)

but im a healthy chicky so it probly took less than that.
Wait at least 3 more weeks to change the jewelry. Tongue piercings take at least a month to heal. Feeling healed and being healed are two different things. When you do have it changed, I would advise having a piercer do it the first time.
I changed mine to a shorter one after 9 days. If all your swelling is gone I recommend changing it now :)

How hard is to change the starter on a boat engine?

Engine is a 4 cylinder Mercruiser inboard/outboard. Is it just a case of removing bolts and swapping it out with a new one, or is there more to it?
How hard is to change the starter on a boat engine?
    Disconnect the battery.

Remove the rear mounting bracket from the engine block.

Remove the 2 mounting bolts and discard. If there are shims between the starter and block, save them.

    Disconnect the wiring harness.

Installation is the reverse, reuse the shims, use new starter bolts, do not over-tighten ( approx. 30 ft. lbs.)

These instructions are for Mercruiser 4 cyl GM blocks. For Mercruiser 470 series, contact me.
How hard is to change the starter on a boat engine?
not hard at all unless it's been in salt water and the bolts are so corroded they break upon removal, then it's a serious pain in the @$$, but if it's a fresh water boat and you don't have a corrosion issue it's easier than it looks, just remember to disconnect the battery first.
what crash said - also make sure you new starter is a marine rated, no car parts....don't want to crash and burn.

  • Can I convert a Mercury Vapor ballets to HPS by Changing the ignitor/starter?

Can I convert a Mercury Vapor ballets to HPS by Changing the ignitor/starter?
Mercury and Metal Halide Lamps have an additional electrode located at one end of the arc tube to assist in lamp starting. These types of lamps require an open circuit Voltage(O.C.V.) approximately two times the lamp voltage to initiate and sustain the arc.

High Pressure Sodium Lamps and some newer Metal Halide lamps, however, have no starting electrodes. In addition to an O.C.V. of approximately two times the lamp voltage, these lamps are started by a high voltage starting pulse, provided by an ignitor, applied across the arc tube.

Most Mercury lamps are designed to start at 240 or 277 volts, the reactor ballast is the most economical way to ballast a Mercury lamp in systems operated at either of these two voltages.

I would suggest that you contact Advance Transformer Co.

How do i change a starter on a 1991 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS CALAIS?

is there a good wibsite that will tell me how to change it?
How do i change a starter on a 1991 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS CALAIS?
The first and most important thing you MUST do is to disconnect BOTH of the battery cables from the battery.

Now, locate your starter and if space allows remove all the wires that are attached to the starter solenoid. Next remove the two large bolts the hold the starter to the engine block. You may need to loosen or remove one or more sheilds around the starter. Once you have removed those two bolts, it should come right out.

Now, when you go to install the new starter, be sure to read the installation instructions very carefully. You may be REQUIRED to install a shim between the new starter and the block to ensure proper starter engagement with the flywheel.

Once you have determined whether or not you need to install a

shim, you can place the new starter in the same location as the old one and reinstall the two starter attaching bolts. Then reattach all of the wires in EXACTLY the same locations as they were removed.

Then reinstall you battery terminal cables and start vehicle.

The starter should turn the engine with a minimum of noise. If the starter does not want to turn the engine over easily, the starter is too close to the flywheel and you will need to add a shim. If the starter makes a grinding/whirring sound when engaged, it is too far from the flywheel and you will need to install a thinner shim or remove it all together.

    I hope that helps!
How do i change a starter on a 1991 OLDSMOBILE CUTLASS CALAIS?
Find the starter and remove the bolts that holds it in. Take the new starter replace the same bolts where they were taken out and your done.
This should be a fairly easy job.

How to change a starter motor on a Nissan 100nx?

Detailed advice step by step needed as it has to be done this week.
How to change a starter motor on a Nissan 100nx?
    At many auto parts stores you can buy a Haynes do-it-yourself manual for your model car, with step-by-step instructions, and basic explanations at the beginning of each chapter. If it is not in stock, you can order it online by searching on %26quot;auto repair manuals%26quot; on Yahoo search. In the front is a section on %26quot;Troubleshooting%26quot; that guides you step-by-step to find causes of most engine malfunctions based on the car's symptoms. Whether you do the work yourself or not, it helps you make informed decisions and not be taken advantage of, and to not feel so %26quot;in the dark.%26quot;

db667089 says: you can check http://www.alldatadiy.com. For about the same price as a Haynes or Chilton's repair manual, you can have online access (for a whole year) to model specific info for your particular vehicle. This is the same info that repair shops use. They have great wiring schematics/diagrams.

Also, for about $15 for a one-month subscription, you can get the factory manual, downloadable whole or by sections (careful! Mine was about 500 pages!) or viewable, at http://eAutoRepair.com.

  • How to remove the starter on a 97 Blazer?

How hard is it to change the starter on a 97 Blazer? what do i have to do?
How to remove the starter on a 97 Blazer?
It's not hard at all. Should be on the right hand side of the engine where the transmission bolts to the engine. There are two 15mm bolts that hold it in place to the engine block and there are 2 wires that need to be unbolted from the starter. The large (main wire) should be purple in color and is also a 15mm nut. The second, smaller wire, should be a 10mm nut. It's easier to pull the two large bolts holding the starter in place first, and after the starter is free from the bell housing (part of the transmission) wiggle the starter out and then let it down so you can get to the starter wires.
How to remove the starter on a 97 Blazer?
First get a bar of soap and scratch it with your finger nails, this will put soap under your nails and keep the grease and grime outta there for easy cleanup later, now let's turn a wrench. Disconnect negative battery cable, truck in park, level suface if you need to raise use jackstands. Remove nut holding cable to starter, remove 2 bolts holding starter to bell housing, remove, reverse for assembly. Safety first wear goggles.

I changed mine straight away but it hurt a lot and went red. You are supposed to wait about 6 weeks but if its not too sore try it, just make sure you clean it really well and sterilise your new ring in boiling water first. X

Anyone change a starter on a 98 Dodge Caravan before?

I tried doing it last night, but the top bolt of the starter (got the bottom front and bottom back bolt undone) was in the most tight, uncomfortable spot. Bought a shorty ratchet, open ended box wrench, everything, but cannot do much more than place the socket over the bolt. There's no room to turn the ratchet with bars and things in the way. Any advice?
Anyone change a starter on a 98 Dodge Caravan before?
not on your vehicle but i have had the same problem. if you cant move the pipes and obstacles then jack up the engine, undo mounting bolts and move engine clear of obstructions. Hydraulic jack and wood block needed so not to damage the sump.

How do i change the starter in my 77 chevy truck?

The truck had a little bit of a problem starting. The ignition key sometimes sticks. I tried to turn it on yesterday and now it won't start.
How do i change the starter in my 77 chevy truck?
It should be on the bottom of the engine on the passenger side. Disconnect the battery first. Then, disconnect the wires on the starter, unbolt the two bolts and drop it out. Keep any shims you may find on it to install on the replacement starter.
How do i change the starter in my 77 chevy truck?
starter is easy, two bolts hold it to the engine, two wires are connected to the solenoid, buy the new one first, compare it to the old one before you remove it making sure you bought the right one.

take your time and start by disconnecting the truck battery cable.
do not change the starter, your problem sounds like the lock cylinder or the ignition switch. If i were you, i would find out he problem before i started throwing parts at it.
the ignition key and the starter are completely different things...

but if you need to change the starter... 1st find it, it'll be connected to the engine and to the battery by the cable.,..

2nd, disconnect the battery cable and take off the bolts holding the starter on aand remove

3rd, put the other one on the way the old one came off.
When you say the ignition key sticks, do you mean it keeps cranking even after you release? The ignition lock cylinder will rarely stick. What will stick is the actual switch which is located on top of the column. Also, if the battery is low or the starter solenoid is going out, it will keep cranking even after you have released the ignition switch from starting position. Now that it wont start, does it crank, does it click or does it not do anything?
Ok unless it is the original starter and it has been getting weaker for some time it is unlikely that your starter failed. Trust me on this one I have a 78 chevy Blazer that ran through about 15 of them because of a stripped bolt I can tell just by how it sounds whats wrong. The guy right before me is probably right!!! if you want to try something really dumb that tells you if its working. Unbolt it and slide it down and away from the truck as far as you can using thick gloves or a plastic handled screwdriver touch the negative and the positive bolt posts if it still works it will startle the hell out of you if not well then you know, But DO NOT do this on the car you will jump the first time and like me probably touch the screwdriver to the tranny coolent lines which crates a makeshift arc welder thats not good.... you can replace your lock for about 10 dollars at autozone and maybe 2 hours of simple work. check a chilton or a manual first. on these perticular chevy's the lock cylinders from auto zone are incorrect!!! match yours to theirs and be warned they will NOT stay in the car with the new ones its a pain in the *** but they come right back out because of a design diviation for a few years...
From my decades of experience I will add something few people think of when they have a problem like yours. On that old of a vehicle one of the prime reasons for a ignition cylinder sticking is a worn out ignition key. The key, after years of use, wears to the point it is not correctly engaging the lockset inside the cylinder. Try your spare key to see if it works better. It's a cheap and easy test.
That is one of the easiest things you can do to a Chevy truck. If you have to ask then maybe you shouldn't attempt the repair yourself; on the other hand it would cost you dearly to have it done when you can do it in 20 minutes! Get a ratchet and at least a 6 inch extension, the socket is probably 9/16%26quot;. Disconnect the battery, %26quot;especially%26quot; if it is a manual transmission. Crawl under the truck on your back (no need to jack it up unless you are bigger than me or you have very low profile tires/rims on it. There are only 2 bolts that actually hold it in, but there is one nut that may have more than one thick wire with eye washers for ends on them on the solenoid and one red wire requiring a 5/16%26quot; small wrench to loosen. Once you crack the nuts loose it is probably easier to finish the removal with your fingers. Depending on what type of exhaust manifold you have on it determines how hard it will be to wiggle the starter out. Some times it can take 20 minutes to get one back in if there is little room to maneuver it out. You must remove the 2 bolts that hold it in first to gain access to the 2 nuts on the solenoid, good luck. P.S. Chevy truck starters cost around $30 with your old one in trade, take it with you save a trip back, especially have it tested before you just go out and buy one, if you don't know how to change one, just guessing I would guess that the starter might not be bad! It could be the bindex or the solenoid; don't buy one without having the old one tested at the local parts house. If you have an oil leak causing your starter to go bad from oil getting inside it the warranty will not be honored, good luck. P.S. It is tough to get it in and out, it has taken me decades to get the hang of it, 20 minutes to me could end up being several hours to you. That's how you change a starter on your truck; but if your ignition switch is on the blink, there probably isn't anything wrong with your starter! It really takes someone with much experience to change the ignition switch on your truck. The steering wheel has to come off firstly, and they don't come off easily, becides that there are many things you can damage in the process.
First I try jumping the solenoid. Use a screwdriver to jump the upper battery terminal to the smaller terminal next to it, the one nearest the engine. If the starter motor is good it'll crank. Be careful not to touch anything else otherwise you'll strike a nasty spark. Keep in mind the engine might try and run even with the ignition shut off because doing this also provides power to the ignition system as long as the starter is turning.

After doing this simply disconnect the negative terminal from the battery. Then disconnect all the wires from the solenoid and remove the starter from the engine. Make sure to not to loose the shims if there are any. You'll need to replace them otherwise you'll break the starter housing the first time you try and use it. You can save a few bucks by simply replacing the solenoid which is the part that usually goes out first.

To determine if it's the key switch causing the problem have someone listen for the click of the solenoid when you turn the key. No click means no power reaching the starter. Replacing the ignition switch is easy, only tool you'll need to rent is a steering wheel puller. You might need to bring the registration in to the parts store to get another ignition switch, happened to me one time.
First you may need to buy an ignition switch instead of a starter. If the switch is sticking the switch may be going bad.

If you feel you need change the starter after checking the switch repost question and someone will walk you through it.

How do wire a starter for a 1950 GMC truck?

I am changing the starter in my 1950 GMC truck from a floor starter to a key. Also changing from a generator to a 1 wire alternator. I have an old wiring diagram that I found online but doesn't seem to be correct. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
How do wire a starter for a 1950 GMC truck?
How about getting a generic manual for a mid-1960s GMC vehicle from your public library, like the Chilton's series? Most cars in the 1960s used alternators instead of generators and had the starter switch combined with the ignition key. If the manual includes basic electrical diagrams, you should be set.

Where is the starter located on a 1969 VW bug?
Located at front end (not engine end) of bell housing on right hand side (left hand side if lying on your back under car).

Download the manual from using link from this site

Starter solenoid still clicking after being changed?

I have just changed the starter solenoid on my 2003 Honda Rancher 350 4x4. Also have a new battery. When trying to start it i am still getting the clicking from the solenoid. I have also checked all connections to and from terminal posts.
Starter solenoid still clicking after being changed?
The solenoid is what engages the starter. When it clicks, it's supposed to be bridging a connection so that the starter gets contact in order to crank. If the solenoid is clicking but the the starter is not cranking, the starter itself might be bad, or it might be disconnected.

To test the starter, like others have said, you can connect a battery directly to it. What I find is easier however, is to bridge the positive from the solenoid straight to the starter. (Alternator is usually hooked up to the positiver terminal of the starter.) If it sparks, you've probably got the right one, and if it does spark but does not crank, your starter is probably bad.

If it is, it might have a strongly acrid smell which is another way you can check, but much less reliable.

(I've only done this on 80's cars, but I'm pretty sure even on a 2003 car the principle is still the same.) Good luck!
Starter solenoid still clicking after being changed?
well, if the battery and starter are good and the wiring is also, but all that you hear is a click then you could have a problem with the engine itself. if the engine is seized it will not turn under the engines power. if it is under a hydraulic lock then it still will not turn. pull the plugs out and hit the key again. if it cranks over and you get a lot of liquid out, then you get to figure out what the liquid is and then how it got into the cylinders. good luck.
did you check the starter to see if it would motor? use jumper cables directly to the starter neg on the case and tap the pos to the pos input of the starter.
Usually thats a battery problem but youve checked that so, check the cable to the starter to see if its grounding against a header or something
