Honda Civic D15B3 starter motor problem?

Hey i m in a big problem. Currently i have honda civic 95 and i have changed many starter motors for this engine and they work only for 1 or 2 days and after that they will get slow wont allow me to even crank my engine further.

Can anyone please tell me that is it possible to find some starter motor for my engine D15B3 with greater rpm that fits exactly on my engine. May be up coming models like D16W9. If possible please do tell me as quickly as possible. Please tell me any other if possible ?

Honda Civic D15B3 starter motor problem?
Your starter motor is not bad. Buy a new battery if yours is over 4 years old and make sure the battery cables are good and making a good connection. Finally, your engine may be overheating and harder to turn over or your timing could be off to make the engine hard to turn over. Remove the spark plugs and the starter should turn over the engine easily. If not, you have an engine mechanical problem.

If i have to change the starter on a 1987 plymouth horizon will i have to jack the motor up to do it?
no you will not Most starters are easy to get to.

Good Luck
If i have to change the starter on a 1987 plymouth horizon will i have to jack the motor up to do it?
No, you should not have to Jack the motor up. However it would help you out of have the car off the ground a bit for better access to the starter.
Nope. Disconnect the negative battery lead. Now slide under the car, back of the engine where the transmission bolts up to it. See that thing with the big wire? That's the starter, take off the big wire, then the little wire. Take out the bolts, slide it out. Go to the auto parts store and have them test it to make sure, putting it back in is the reverse of removing it.

How do I change my starter on a 1987 2WD 4 cyl. Nissan Pickup Truck and where can i find a diagram?
Starter on a 1987 Nissan pickup Truck?
your best bet is to get a repair manual
Starter on a 1987 Nissan pickup Truck?
The starter is there under the intake manifold and held on with two 14 mm headed long bolts from the front top and bottom bolt fron the back side transmission side. A couple 3%26quot; extensions and 14mm socket and bloody knuckles. You will have the feeling of a mechanic. Just disconnect the battery first 10mm battery clamp. The battery terminal at the starter is a 12mm nut and don't forget to reconnect the battery ground under the starter bolt from the back side. A good mechanic can perform the job in less than a hour. I have done Lot's of them and know how to maneuver the starter in and out so It takes me about 15 minutes. Of course I have almost $100.000 in snap-on tools and 35 years experience.

How hard is it to change a starter on a 95 mercury grand marques, and where is it located.?

The starter is located on the lower passenger side of the engine on this particular vehicle. To remove/replace the starter is fairly straightforward as it is with most vehicles. On this particular one, there are three 10mm bolts that secure it to the transmission. The most difficult part of the job will be access to the top bolt. Hope this helps.

    Removal

WARNING: When servicing starter or performing any maintenance in the area of starter, note the heavy gauge input lead connected to the starter solenoid is hot at all times. Make sure the protective cap is installed over the terminal and is replaced after service.

NOTE : When battery has been disconnected and reconnected, some abnormal drive symptoms may occur while the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) relearns its adaptive strategy. The vehicle may need to be driven 10 miles or more to relearn the strategy.

Less than an hour labor time.

    Disconnect battery ground cable.

Raise and support the vehicle on a hoist.

Disconnect starter cable and push-on connector from starter solenoid. CAUTION : When disconnecting hard-shell connector at S-terminal, grasp the plastic shell and pull off. Do not pull on wire. Be careful to pull straight off to prevent damage to the connector and the S-terminal. If any part of the connection is damaged, replace the damaged components.

    Remove upper mounting bolt.

Remove lower mounting bolt and starter.

    Installation

Position starter motor to engine and install upper and lower bolts finger-tight.

Tighten the upper bolt to 20-27 Nm (15-20 lb-ft).

Tighten the lower bolt to 20-27 Nm (15-20 lb-ft).

Connect starter solenoid connector. Be careful to push straight on and make sure connector locks in position with a notable click or detent.

Install starter cable to starter terminal. Tighten to 9-14 Nm (80-124 lb-in).

Replace red starter solenoid safety cap.

    Lower vehicle to floor.

    Connect battery ground cable

    $80 labor plus parts
How much should the labor cost to repair/change the starter on a 96 buick century?
Depending on the amount a repair shop charges for their labor. The cost to replace that starter will run anywhere between $65-$85. That price is labor only. And those prices are with a decent repair shop that won't rip you off.

How hard is it to change the wheel bearings on a 2002 hyundai sonata?

How hard is it to change the wheel bearings on a 2002 hyundai sonata?
    easy with the proper tools
i think you can get the rotter with the bearings installed already
get the book on it and check it out. some axles have outer bearings (close to the wheel) and other have them in towards the differential, or some have both...get the book on it..i personally don't feel that changing and packing the bearings yourself would be too difficult, as you seem to be mechanically inclined.
    not easy...don't mess with it

I have got a 1974 chevy scottsdale pickup some one changed the starter on it it will start but it wont shut of

switch the wires on the solinoid
I have got a 1974 chevy scottsdale pickup some one changed the starter on it it will start but it wont shut of
Are you sure the ignition switch isn't hanging up
I have got a 1974 chevy scottsdale pickup some one changed the starter on it it will start but it wont shut of
    check the ignition swith
The problem isn't the starter, it may be in the ignition switch under the column needing replaced or someone may have altered the wiring and they have the coil wire running from the alternator to the coil.
Could also be bendix in starter hanging up, give it a sharp whack with a hammer.
The starter? It may be hanging(stuck onto the flywheel because it is either not the right starter or the teeth in the starter are burred. Disconnect the wires, pull the starter out and reconnect the wires and switch the ignition to the on position. We know it cranks when you go to the crank position. There should be no power to the starter after the key is let go. So it is either a mixup in the wiring at the starter that power is still going to the solenoid after the key is let loose(most likely and an easy fix) Just wire it right.
The other answers are good, but I would add that you want to make sure the wires at the starter are cleanly attached and not touching each other. Also, if the starter is after market it may need to be shimmed so the the starter gear doesn't touch the teeth of the flywheel. There needs to be some clearance.

1996 pontiac with 6 cyl. starter replaced. When starting, starter stays on. when open hood it stops?

I had the starter changed and it was fine for a couple of weeks. One morning when starting the starter stayed on. Car did not start. When I opened hood it stopped. Worked fine the whole day. Next morning same thing. When I opened hood it stops. 60 degree weather .
1996 pontiac with 6 cyl. starter replaced. When starting, starter stays on. when open hood it stops?
You have a car starter remote that's defective. Disable it or have it done. The pin switch on the hood is causing it shut off when you raise the hood.

    LOL.

I have not even a remote idea.

do You have an special alarm on that vehicle.?

that was 2 days ago, since then it is OK
My car didnt start I hear just a clic .I tried many times then it turned on. should I change my starter?
sounds like the solenoid has failed. there is a copper washer ans two contacts that act as a switch to drive the starter in that solenoid, when the contacts get dirty( no longer electrically conductive) this is exactly what will happen.
My car didnt start I hear just a clic .I tried many times then it turned on. should I change my starter?
If it did start the battery is probably good so clean the battery cables and if it still does it go for a new starter.
your battery connections may need cleaning or the battery has past it's life span...
there's a whole system of things to check.

    battery (and terminals)

    points %26amp; plugs

    distributor cap

wires between distributor and the plugs (probably not that)

    solenoid

    alternator

    starter
    always start at the beginning......

    such as.....

battery.... terminals may be dirty or corroded, always make sure there is good contact or battery may be weak and on it's way out.. have the amps checked

fuses.... few cars have fuses associated with the starting system but a few do

could be a bad ignition switch or

    a bad starter connection....

it can go on from here....... from electrical connections, a fuel pump, fuel filter, loose starter, bad injectors, etc.............

check the connections. and mr golden they dont use points any more
Try cleaning your battery terminals first to rule that out . All connections even at the starter. If that don`t resolve the problem ,then more than likely you need a new solenoid .
it's your battery, get someone to jump it. and let it run for a little while so the alternator can charge the battery a little before you turn it off again
    Starter is probably OK.

    Clean your battery terminal connections.
If the battery is less than 2 years old it probably isn't the problem although if you can check the fluid levels and top them off with distilled water, that worry can likely be eliminated.

When looking at the battery make sure the terminals and connections are clean and TIGHT. This will eliminate the next possibility-an inconsistant connection.

If your car is somewhat older and has been exposed th the elements for some time, check to see if the ground cable -from the starter motor to the chassis is fresh looking and is secure at both ends.

If you are not sure where the starter motor is -follow the red (positive) wire from the battery to the cylinder shaped motor (probably you need to look from under the front of the car/truck ) .

From there ,the ground cable likely looks like a flat braided item connecting the starter to the frame.

If you can eliminate that as the problem, make sure the positive wire (on the way to the starter) connects securely to and from the solenoid and that all wires to the solenoid are tight, then likely the motor is, and will be the fault.

Please remember ,mechanical/electric problems seldom heal themselves.
i would check some other things first, like have the battery checked, clean and tighten the battery terminals and sometimes starters will stick. take something and tap on the starter.

The scoring is based on head to head stats. Say you win points, rebounds, and FG% that would be 3 points and so on.

Need to fix solenoid or replace starter in 1998 Isuzu V6 Rodeo--is this do-able at home?

We need to change the starter in our 98 V6 4WD Rodeo. Starting to read about it online and suspecting this may be a garage job, not a home one. Has anyone done this at home? is it doable? Does any one know how to change a starter?

    It's a 96 dodge intrepid. Thanks.
Does any one know how to change a starter?
easy one, You will need to jack the car up and support it so the car does not move or fall off the jack. If you havea some simple ramps it will be even better.

Once this is done you will need to remove the battery cable to ensure you do not create any sparks.

Locate the starter under the vehicle bolted to the engine block with the transmission next to it.

You will see a single red (Thick) wire attached to the starter. remove the nut and washer with a socket wrench and remove the wire cable.

There are two bolts holding the starter to the engine block. You will need a Socket wrench to unbolt these two bolts. once you remove these the Starter should slide out along the transmission side and it should be free.

Go to the autoparts store with the starter to ENSURE you get an exact match of starter. Take your registration with you so you know the make model and year and engine size to get the right starter.

reverse order in placing the new starter.
Does any one know how to change a starter?
Undo your positive battery cable, lift or jack the car up, take the starter bolts loose, then pull the starter out of the dust cover and flywheel area. Once loose remove the wires. Reverse to reinstall. The starter is between the engine and transmission, what is refered to as a dust cover hides the flywheel, and they have 2 bolts that hold them on, if you need that info.
Remove neg. battery cable, set aside.

    Locate starter, near transmission.

Remove any and all electric connections to starter, set aside.

Remove bolts, usually two, one high one low. Remember where they came from as some are longer than others.

Remove starter by pulling it away from transmission.

Install new starter the same way the old one came out.

Install bolts in theyre original positions and hand tighten.

Tighten bolts evenly by swithching between the two as you go.

Ensure the starter is flush in its mount.

    Reconnect wiring.

    Reconnect neg terminal.

    Call it done!

Good luck! You will need a socket and wrench set.

The vehicle will need to be raised, use jack stands!

If youll be patient and remember how it came off, you can put it back.

    Good Luck!

How hard is it to change a starter on a 1998 ford explorer?
    ohh, it ain't so tough.
Changing starters on trucks and SUVs is usually pretty easy; they're up high enough that you can get to it easily and it's just two or three bolts. They're usually on there pretty snug so hopefully you have a good socket wrench.
No not really. Just remember to unplug the battery before you star unhooking wires. Then its just two bolts, two plugs and the power wire on the back side of the alternator. It will take you about half an hour. Good luck.
If you have tools it's easy. But then rebuilding transmissions is easy too.

My 1995 Ranger will not start. I've checked the battery, starter, and changed the solenoid. Any ideas?

You need to give more details. Does the engine crank at all?

Here is a link to all the TSB's for that vehicle. I saw that there was one for the ignition system. You might want to look into it some more.

My 1995 Ranger will not start. I've checked the battery, starter, and changed the solenoid. Any ideas?
    does it crank over?
I am assuming that it does not crank! I am not totally farmiliar with this year Ranger, - but most Fords have a solenoid on the fender well close to the battery area! This solenoid, sends down power to the solenoid on the starter to make the starter %26quot;crank!%26quot;. The reason for this is that the current going to the starter solenoid is too great for the switch on the steering column (ignition switch composite), -- this lets a small current activate a solenoid, - which carrys a large current down to the starter! The solenoid itself has two %26quot;big terminals%26quot; with the battery cable coming %26quot;in %26quot;, and %26quot;out%26quot;, -- it also has at least one small terminal (the %26quot;ground%26quot; is internal on some), -- anyway if you jump a wire from the %26quot;hot%26quot; (small terminal),-side of solenoid -- to the %26quot;key%26quot; terminal (the one from the ignition switch), the engine will crank.... Providing the wire to the starter, and the starter itself is good! And if everything else is ok, the engine will start, - (so make sure that the vehicle is in neutral ! Of course the ignition key has to be on for the engine to run! The %26quot;jumper%26quot; bypasses the entire ignition system, so it will %26quot;crank%26quot; wether the key is on or off!!

Ok, so now we have the engine running (right??)This has narrowed it down to the %26quot;safety switch%26quot; on the clutch (right),-

or the %26quot;keying%26quot; portion of the ignition switch (one used in starting position). I started driving cars in 1952, when everything was standard (almost), -- so I not only prefer a standard transmission, but I prefer it the %26quot;old way%26quot;! I %26quot;defeat%26quot; the safety switch, because I get several benefits from doing so! It is already %26quot;normal%26quot; for me to put down the clutch to start the vehicle, -- but I have %26quot;swamped%26quot; the engine a couple times going through big puddles of water, -- I can then put it in first gear, and turn the key, and roll it out of the water and get it on %26quot;dry%26quot; ground, - after a few minutes - the engine drys out , and it starts! It is also useful in getting stalled car out of intersectiuon with out getting out and pushing!

If ignition switch is bad,l you could put in a %26quot;pushbutton%26quot; switch under the edge of dash (where it isn't easily seen)- it is a little easier, - and a whole lot cheaper than changing the ignitin switch itself!! Note that the %26quot;switch does not require removing the steering wheel itself (that has the ignition %26quot;lock%26quot; in it) the actual switch is on the column just behind the dash panel, - and accessible by %26quot;droping%26quot; the steering column fron bottom of dash (remove %26quot;saddle%26quot; to do so!) To be %26quot;real correct%26quot; you could run a wire from %26quot;ignition%26quot; feed in fusebox, or from one of regular %26quot;power points%26quot; when the engine is %26quot;turned on%26quot;, - then it will be %26quot;dead%26quot; when the ignition is turned off,-- and key is removed (so nobody can move the car without key!)
some of those manuel trannys, you have to push in the clutch first.does it turn over,if so then it might be either fuel or spark.check to see if you are getting gas, then check the spark at the plugs.

Go to www.autozone.com, I use this auto supply store web site on-line, and they have free on-line repair guides for alot of vehicles. You must first register(free), to use the guides. Once you remove the starter most auto supply stores will test it to make sure it is the stater. If you have never done much mechanic work, I would agree with the 1st post, take it to a shop.

Acer netbook with Windows 7 Starter keeps changing screen saver settings?

I have an Acer netbook with Windows 7 Starter, as I said, and it keeps locking itself (as if I'm hitting Win+L) after 5 minutes of me not using it.

What's causing it is the screen saver setting. I've set it to %26quot;none,%26quot; so no screen saver comes on, but what happens is it just locks. It displays the log-on screen after 5 minutes, no matter how many minutes I set it to wait for. It can have %26quot;60%26quot; in the box, but it locks after 5. And when I turn the computer off, it resets itself to say 5 minutes.

hit up an auto parts store and buy a Haynes manual for your year and make of car. It will walk you through every single repair from doing a fuse to how to rebuild the engine. Will tell you tools needed, give images, tips, tricks, etc.

Best $25 you'll ever invest in a used car. Don't leave home without your Haynes

Can a starter on a vw bug be changed without messing up the computer, or does a shop have to do it?

has anyone ever done this themselves, someone said you have to disconnect the battery to change the starter and all your codes will be off then HELP
Can a starter on a vw bug be changed without messing up the computer, or does a shop have to do it?
as with most car questions this is a partial truth! if you disconnect the battery (which you have to do, dont listen to the other poster) you will lose the throttle position memory in the cars computer, and you will lose the readiness code stored in the memory, however the readiness code is self generating, you dont need to do anything, as for the throttle position memory, after you have reconnected the battery, turn on the key, but dont crank it over, wait 10 seconds, then turn it off again, turn it on one more time, and slowly press the gas pedal all the way to the floor, and then release, and then start the car and let it idle for 1-2 minutes, the car will relearn all its settings, and you have nothing to worry about
Can a starter on a vw bug be changed without messing up the computer, or does a shop have to do it?
you can change the starter without messing the computer up, i have done this a lot,i removed the wires without disconnecting the battery ,although its a good idea to remove the battery cable it wont mess the computer up,you just have to reset your radio stations on it,but it can be done without removing the battery cable, you just have to be really careful and don't let the wires touch anything,or you can use a 9 volt plug in power source to the cig-lighter plug and then remove the battery cable and it wont even mess the radio stations up on it,all will be the same when you re-connect the cable on it,either way works fine, good luck.

Should I change the whole starter on my truck or silinoide?

when I go to start my my 2002chevy truck the starter skips and makes a spinning noise. most of the time starts after second attempt sometimes more. do i need to change the whole starter or the part attahed to it?dont no if its called silinoid.
Should I change the whole starter on my truck or silinoide?
the part that is malfunctioning on your starter is called a %26quot;Bendix%26quot; or %26quot;drive%26quot; it is the drive gear on the inside of the nosecone, if the starter is still spinning the solenoid is still good but don't waste your time patching them up just purchase a new one
Should I change the whole starter on my truck or silinoide?
From real world exp. change the entire starter. Some Solenoids for newer GM vehicles(anything after 1994) can run as much or more than a quality reman starter. Go to www.advanceautoparts.com and price one
It is called solenoid. I think you would be money ahead if you changed both items. In fact starters my come with the solenoid already installed.

On suggestion. If you are going to change it yourself, you might take it off and see if the starter shaft is just dirty and gummed up and not allowing the solenoid to slide the gear into the fly wheel. Good luck. Pops
Whoa, DON'T change the solenoid. You're still getting power to the starter man. Until the solenoid goes out, you don't need one. Change the starter, you'll be good to go.
Sounds like the starter gear isn't engaging so it may be the solenoid...but some places that ell starters sell the solenoid already attached...best just get both.

I always get both just in case one damaged the other in some way.
..I would check out the ground wire on the starter. See if it's loose. I had a 96 %26amp; 98 with the same problem. If that,s not it I would change the solenoid. first off I would clean the starter and gear. check the fly wheel, make sure some teeth are not missing or worn down. I dont know if this will help or not but I have a 2000 ford F-150 that had the same problem. I changed everything, then found out it was the ignition switch in the steering column. Good luck
Your problem really sounds like a bad starter drive. I don't know what your skills are,but the starter will need to be removed and taken apart to replace the drive. You should also replace the brushes in the unit while it is apart. You might also look at the solenoid contacts, some of them can be turned around and work just fine, for years. It is also very important that the flywheel be examined for broken or worn teeth. If this is a problem, the transmission and bell housing will have to be removed to replace the flywheel.

If you don't have the skills for this type of work, remember that shop rates today range from $45 to $100 per hour. Although it seems pretty high priced, it may save you more in the long run. One other thing, you could get a rebuilt starter and install it, if the flywheel is ok. Note, some slight wear on the flywheel teeth would not mean changing it. Therefore, you could get by for around $50 to $100 if you change the starter your self. Also make sure there is a solenoid on the rebuilt starter. Most important, make sure the ground cable is disconnected from tha battery before starting the work. Make sure the truck is blocked up and chocks on both sides of the rear wheels.
It could be just the solenoid, however, generally when the solenoid is shot it just spins without engaging the flywheel. A rebuilt starter from a reputable parts outlet is warrantied and is a good investment. Trade in your old unit and you'll get a core discount. It's not gonna break the bank, and it's a good thing to have on those cold, dark, rainy nights. A good rebuilt starter should last many years, why screw around with a questionable starter. Keep in mind, there are few things that can leave you waiting for tow truck faster than a bad starter. Replace it.

    Regards,

    Sisao Tresed
I think you need to do some basic checks first. Clean the battery cable connections and check the connections to the starter/solenoid. Once the battey cable ends are scoured clean and the same thing occurs, have a charging systems diagnostic done on it (maybe $20) as this will check the battery, starter, and alternator.

Most solenoids will outlast several starters and if they fail for some reason you simply flip the thick copper washer around so the unused smooth flat side will make contact. There's not much to them.

If you swap the starter the new starter will come with a solenoid. For some reason it is often necessary to use a shim to space the starter when you bolt it back top the engine block and if you torque the bolts to %26quot;spec's%26quot; (specifications) this will cause the starter to not disengage and this is a fun session of trying to unscrew the battery cable to stop this action. If the motor fires you can strip the teeth off of the flex plate and this will result in having to drop the tranny to install a new flex plate. I use a set of gauges (some older folks call them %26quot;feeler gauges%26quot;) to measure the gap between the starter gear teeth and the flex plate teeth. It's been so long since I did this that I can't recall the correct gap to use. Something like .003%26quot;. This is also called %26quot;lash%26quot;. I've seen guys not use the gauges on rear ends and the teeth on the ring gear get ripped off when they put their foot on the gas.

I've seen them screw up 6this semingly simple job at the dealerships and they have to fix it at their cost. A job that pays maybe an hour turns into a whole days work when they have to drop the tranny to replace the flex plate.

    Good Luck!

    95 saturn starter change?

i need direction on how to change the starter on a 95 saturn, step by step will be the best, thanks.
    95 saturn starter change?
Disconnect the battery, Raise the car up on jack stands.

Laying under the car, the starter is up behind the engine, up above the right side axle. You will need to disconnect a 13mm(1/2 inch) nut off the starter (this is the battery, feed thick red cable) Then you will need to disconnect the smaller nut (10mm i think) this is the ignition feed. Once those are disconnected there are two 15mm bolts to remove one is visible, one is not. You will need a shot extension maybe 3-4 inches on your rachet to gain access to the bolt you cannot see... Once those are out, reverse the procedure to assemble.

    95 saturn starter change?
before raising car remove 8mm bolt from positive side of battery, raise car, remove 15mm nut from starter post, unhook starter wire, use deep 13mm socket with 3 inch extension, remove lower bolt. Use 13mm socket with 6 inch extension remove top starter bolt, remove old starter, replace with new starter and place top bolt into socket, reaching over the starter, install top bolt, bottom bolt, then reattach wires.

What would it cost to change the starter on a 98 Nissan Sentra? Parts+Labor approximate also would be a help.?

Your total should be about 200.00

Part cost 120.00 at parts store, the garage will charge about 150.00 to customer. It should be about 50.00 for labor. Total 200.00 give or take 20.00 (tax is extra).
What would it cost to change the starter on a 98 Nissan Sentra? Parts+Labor approximate also would be a help.?
Not a big expense. Should be under $150 for parts and labor.
What would it cost to change the starter on a 98 Nissan Sentra? Parts+Labor approximate also would be a help.?
    The starter itself will cost $150 - $165. You can check auto parts at;

    http://www.autopartswarehouse.com/search鈥?/a>

    Labor is a guess - maybe $100
If you have the 1.6l engine then it will be about $100 for a starter and about an hour of labor. So a little under $200.

If you have the 2.0l the starter is about $175 and is a little harder to get at so maybe 1-2 hours labor. So more like a little under $300.

  • '96 Safari. Starter is engaging with NO KEY in ignition.?

Driving and heard a %26quot;jack-hammer-like%26quot; sound, turned out to be my van. No excessive smoke, 12v guage was dropping with low idles and rising as I hit the gas. Eventually the van stopped running. No ignition sounds at all, but power still to the radio, lights etc.

Changed starter. Still the van tries to start when the %26quot;red%26quot; is re-connected to the battery, with no key in the ignition. But will not start.

Currently the van is jacked up, battery disconnected and sitting still under my car port!!!

    Any suggestions???

    Thanks
'96 Safari. Starter is engaging with NO KEY in ignition.?
Definitely a short. With the starter removed open the harness and follow the solenoid wire back to it's source. Your going to find a short probably caused by heat from a manifold too close. Another possible is the neutral safety switch. This switch is connected mechanically to the transmission and the wiring may be involved in the linkage.

The short has found a power source and is feeding from it.

Should be easily found by an experienced mechanic.

Yes, sometimes the starter relay can stick. Remove the wireing from it and see if the starter wireing is hot/power.Test light. It will show up as being hot to the touch as well.
'96 Safari. Starter is engaging with NO KEY in ignition.?
The starter is getting energized when it isn't supposed to. Sounds like a bad relay or switch, to me.

    Good Luck!
if you have a remote start, disconnect it.
Sounds like the Starter Sellenoid is staying engaged. You'll have to get a new starter in. At least remove it and take it to a parts store to get it tested. This happened to me 2 times on my 92 Aerostar.
sounds to me like its the ignition switch, sounds like the switch is stuck in the run position.
If you are getting power to all of those things I would say your ignition switch is bad. Other than that maybe the starter relay is bad. You should disconnect the starter main power, so you can diagnose the problem.
I agree with wisdom's answer. your starter is getting power through a short.
disconnect the purple wire from the starter reconnect the battery is the purple wire still hot?

my guess says yes disconnect the neutral switch from transmission is the purple wire still hot? yes again

for this to happen while driving the purple wire must have shorted to batt voltage because the neutral switch would have been open (not in neutral or park switch open)

find where the purple wire shorted to battery voltage

Why is my new starter going out?

Changed starter on truck about a month ago. Last two days it just clicks when I turn key. Takes about 3-4 times before it will turn over. Truck is '73 Chevy 1/2 ton. Bought rebuilt lifetime warrantied starter because old one was heating up and wouldn't start without jump once it had been driven. I replaced myself, was too simple to screw up...or so I thought.
Why is my new starter going out?
Check the wiring is CLEAN and tight on starter AND battery.

    Check the flywheel ring gear.

If all ok,probably a faulty starter,it does happen.
Why is my new starter going out?
Did you clean the mounting surface before you installed so that it has good ground? Inspect the positive cable coming from the battery. Check for any hard spots where the cable is not flexible. If you find one it needs to be replaced. If I remember correctly, the ignition system has a fuse linkage in-line with the wire along the radiator.

One reason it could be failing is if it has a short, like the positive cable doesn't have a good connection.

    Edit:

Given that the old starter was heating up, I would say you have a short somewhere in one of those wires.
Possibly a bad connection or defective battery. A poor connection can heat up very fast - especially with the large amount of current a starter draws.

Each year 1.6 million starters are replaced - when it was the battery or battery connection.

    Believe it or not.

Just paid 244.00 to have a starter changed in a 92 jeep cherokee.?

I thought going in,id be looking at 150 tops(should have asked). The breakdown was 156 mat, and 87 labor. It took ten minutes to put in,i was there. Even at 1.0 hours at shop rate seems high. Did i get a raw deal?
Just paid 244.00 to have a starter changed in a 92 jeep cherokee.?
It seems like it. A new starter for the 92 Jeep Cherokee with the L6 4.0 Liter FI engine starts at $69.98 from Advance Auto. You paid 2 and a half times that. For the .L4 2.5 Liter`FI engine it is $81.98. Seems like you got ripped.
Just paid 244.00 to have a starter changed in a 92 jeep cherokee.?
you should have done it yourself. Buy a %26quot;haynes%26quot; car manual for it. It explaines EVERYTHING in detail. Even people who know nothing about their cars could handle it.
They didn't even kiss you huh? It sucks when you're at the mercy of a vampire and you have to let'em feed!
nope. They're on flat rate, which means on average, that job takes an hour. So if they do it in 10 minutes, they still get paid for the hour. If it takes them 2 hours for some reason, they still only get paid for an hour's work. I'd say you didn't get ripped, that's just the going rate.
somtimes shops have a min. shop rate of 1 hour. Depending on were you live that hourly rate is probably correct. Parts seem reasonable. Just make sure you got a warranty with it
To me %26quot;It sounds as though - you got a Raw-Deal%26quot;...

Two factors - Too which I'm thinking:

    a. Was it the dealership that you purchase your Jeep from? If so... They could have broken the labor down - somewhat more...

    b. If it was not {as stated above}... That would sound about right...

Most dealerships will charge you %26quot;out the ying-yang%26quot; because you did not purchase your Jeep there...

This I know - because I've had the same problem with where I purchased my Jeep at our local dealership and when we were out of town. I found that I could save a little by just having it towed back to where I purchased it... for repairs....

The cost as to what mechanics are paid PER HOUR... Are not the same at all Jeep dealerships. Some are anywhere from 75.00 too 95.00 %26amp; up - PER HOUR.....

The next time - get an estimate. It will save you $$$$....
yes you got a raw deal....but you have to consider that most shops get the parts for considerably less than a walk in customer would....but they carge that customer whats called %26quot;list price%26quot; which is usually higher than walkin price...going rate for labor here is about $60-$65 an hr and the starter cost is about the same(less than $100 if you turn in the core at time of purchase) so yes you got ripped
you paid about what is average at a dealership.

The part cost will be the actual part of the cost, plus whatever the mark-up percentage is. A dealer adds mark-up as they are in business to make a profit. And service is MUCH more profitable than actually selling cars.

The labor is flat rate. The actual mechanic probably got anywhere from 14-20 dollars of that, and the rest goes to overhead and profit margin, shop supplies and the like.

Next time search the web for a local Jeep club. You can most likely find someone local to help you, and it most likely won't cost you more than a case of beer, plus parts......
For a dealership to do the work that sounds about right. Dealerships always charge list price for parts regardless what you could the part for from say Auto Zone or Advanced Auto Parts.

Dealerships always charge a flat rate for labor on a specific job also. So this job was rated at 1 hour. If for some reason the tech at the dealership took 2 hours to do this he would have been paid for 1 hour.

Given that this is a Jeep with the inline 6 I would have done this myself and saved a couple hundred bucks.
no, they work by flat rate which means they get paid by the job and not how long it takes to repair it, the shop rates vary between $75.00 to $125.00. did they order this part? if so they did diag on it on the first visit, there is a labor guide that is followed and you ould have paid about the same at any dealer
The 1.0 hour that you paid isn't only for the work. It is paying for the experience and knowledge of the mechanic. You can pay less and have a regular person put it on and possibly screw it up or even replace the wrong part, or you can pay a trained mechanic to do the work. Would you go to your grocery store for medical advice? No, you would go to a doctor. Same thing applies.
Auto Zone parts 16848 Price: $69.99

For me at least 244.00 is highway robbery and that is why I try to do maintenance myself. Yes, the above justifications all do have some merit, but this is not rocket science to change.

    Sorry for your troubles.
I'm not so sure you got a bad deal.

I checked RockAuto.com and they listed several prices for 1992 Jeep Cherokee starter motors (I-6 engine.)

The price range was $73.79 - $200.99, depending on whether the part was remanufactured or brand-new. (These prices did not include the refundable charge for the core exchange.)

So, if your dealer installed a new MOPAR starter motor, I think it would be on the middle to high end of the above price range. And a labor cost of $75-100 would be reasonable for a dealer.

If you did it yourself and bought a mid-range remanufactured starter motor for $80-$100, you could have saved at least half the dealer's charge. But it would take about an hour.

I have been there and done that.

  • Pokemon Platinum: Starter Pokemon?

I just got pokemon platinum and im starting a new game. Im really excited and all. But i dont know what starter pokemon i should choose. Should i choose Turtwig, Chimchar, or Piplup? I like pokemon that can learn moves that can be super effective on their weaknesses.

In my old Pokemon Diamond game, i had a chimchar as a starter. When it evolved into a Monferno and then an Infernape, the moves i taught it are Close Combat, flare blitz, stone edge, and shadow claw. Its obvious that stone edge is for fighting flying pokemon and shadow claw is for psychic. But it doesnt have anything good on water and ground pokemon.

So in pokemon platinum, i was wondering should i just take chimchar again, or should i change starters?

P.S. I could trade the Infernape from my diamond to platinum, but its just that i dont have a second DS. I would have to go to my friends house to do that...

    10 points for best answer!
    Pokemon Platinum: Starter Pokemon?
OK first of all congrates on getting platinum i got it to the last one at walmart.

ok first of all i choose turtwig and it works well enogh i looked it up and it Kidzworld.com said

Platinum is different than Diamond and Pearl in that you will fight some gyms in a different order. Notably, the Ghost gym is now third, which means you will need to train up a good pokemon to take care of Fantina's Gengar. Here is a quick breakdown of the gyms and how the starters fare against them.

First Gym: Rock -- Turtwig and Piplup will have no problems here after learning their first special move. Chimcar will need to level up a bit and learn his Fighting moves to be effective.

Second Gym: Grass -- Chimchar is great here, obviously, while Piplup will have the hardest time.

Third Gym: Ghost -- Chimchar and Piplup's elemental attacks will be better than Turtwig's. Note that you cannot use any of Turtwig's Ground or Chimchar's Fighting attacks here. (but if turtwig has bite it is good)

Fourth Gym: Fighting -- Chimchar, being Fire/Fighting, will have an advantage here, especially against Lucario.

Fifth Gym: Water -- Turtwig is great here while Chimchar will have some trouble. If Piplup might have a slow battle if it isn't leveled up enough.

Sixth Gym: Steel -- Chimchar is a lifesaver here. Turtwig is great too, since his Ground attacks can do a lot of damage to everyone except Bronzong.

Seventh Gym: Ice -- Chimcar is good here, but watch out for Water/Ice type pokemon. Turtwig won't be very helpful here at all.

Eighth Gym: Electric -- Turtwig is fantastic here while Piplup is terrible here.

since you already choose chimchar it is easy to see that turtwig is the best choose.

also the main reason many ppl choose piplup and turtwig failed was because there werent very many fire pokemon availible until you finish the national pokedex.

but in platinum there is a considerablely more amount of fire types you should do fine with them.

i had all three starters on diamond and sent the 2 other to pearl so my diamond and pearl had all 3 it takes forever!!! especially if you want different genders for each.

    so i hope this helps

    good luck choosing
    Pokemon Platinum: Starter Pokemon?
I was in the same situation as you but I'm buying the new DSI in april. Anyway i ended up starting with Piplup and using a friends ds to trade infernape over after the 4th gym.

Or you could use a friends ds, get a starter, trade to diamond, and keep doing that with all three starters.
I'd say stay away from Chimchar if you never got all 3 starters. If you did, then get Chimchar again if you know lots of good strategies.

Otherwise, I'd say get Turtwig in order to have a strong starter for most situations. And you can get other Water types in the wild. Although, Steel types aren't as easy, so maybe Piplup is worth it.

Again, I'd say Turtwig. Good luck in Platinum!
Unfortunately, there are not a lot of Fire pokemon in the game (if it follows Diamond/Pearl). I am starting with Chimchar again, but this time I am not going to evolve him. Will keep him as a straight Fire pokemon, so he doesn't have the fiighting type weaknesses.
Chimchar Pros: It has many great moves that it can learn. It has super attack and speed.

Chimchar cons: The defenses and HP are low and as an Infernape it has lots of weaknesses. It's difficult at the first gym if you don't evolve it.

Piplup pros: As an Empoleon, it's resistant to almost everything except for fighting, electric, and ground. Tons of good moves it can learn.

Piplup cons: It is weak at the second gym and it doesn't naturally learn strong attacks. It's great with TMs. You tend to give it lots of HMs when it's an Empoleon, which is bad.

Turtwig pros: It has great moves early in the game. Very strong against ground types. It evolves into a ground type later and it has the highest base attack. It evolves later into it's first evolution, but evolves earlier into it's second evolution.

Turtwig cons: Slow. Lots of weaknesses. Super weak to ice when it evolves into a torterra.
I think you should not chose Piplu there are tons of water types and any can learn surf. Turwig is ok but he has trouble being the main pokemon for people who go through the game with only 1 pokemon. Chimchar I would get he is the only fire type beside ponyta although personally I did not get him. But train in the beginning for the rock gym leader.

Here are some alternative moves sets

    flame tthrower

    sunny day

solar beam (no recharge when sunny!)

    stone edge

    or

    shadow claw

    flame thrower

    close combat

    grass knot or stone edge
    Turtwig. Trust me.

Oh, and if your going to play, play with minimal interference. All I did was trade some master balls for later use. I am at victory road and all my pokemon are over lvl. 60. I haven't gotten to the elite 4 yet.
I also have the game. I started with Chimchar but the first Gym Leader will destroy you. Go with Piplup, thats what I went with. Plus Piplup final stage is Empoleon a Water-Steel type. Piplup can learn flying type moves lke Peck which are super effective against your rivals Turtwing, Grotle etc.

How to remove a starter on a 2002 nissan sentra?

Hello everyone. I recently inherited a 2002 nissan sentra and it wouldnt start. Of course first thing i did was get the battery re charged to full capacity. So battery is fine now. I tried starting it and got nothing but click, click, click in the starter so i knew the starter went bad. Here is the problem i have changed starters on all types of cars and never had problems. The starter on the 2002 nissan sentra sits right in front of the fire wall and i cannot get to it. i was able to get one bolt off but i cannot find the other. . I need help can anyone show me a picture of the starter that comes with the car so i can see the bolt pattern atleast that way when i go back outside i can try and figure out where it might be.

    Thank You
How to remove a starter on a 2002 nissan sentra?
on this vehicle, one bolt( maybe 2) you can see it from the back of the engine going through the trans bell housing and into the starter, the other is facing the opposite way. you'll have to get under it.

Disconnect your negative battery cable. Raise the front of the car. You will find the starter next to oil pan, between the engine and the radiator, just above the front undercarriage. Remove the batter cable and wires from the front of the starter. Remove the plastic cover at the back of the starter. There are 3 bolts in this plastic cover. One of the bolts goes into the side of the transmission. The other 2 go into the bottom of the plastic cover, and cover the bottom of the flywheel. When this is removed you will see the two bolts that go straight up into the engine block that hold the starter in place. On the front of the starter is a bracket. Take the bolt out of the starter that holds the starter to this bracket. Remove the bolt from the other end of the bracket where it bolts to the engine. Somewhat of a pain to get around the AC compressor to get this bolt out. Remove the two bolts at the back of the starter and it will fall in your lap. You may need a 6%26quot; extension on your socket to get to the bolt that has the front cross member in the way. Just reverse this to install the new one. Good luck.

How do you change the electric starter on a 49cc pocket rocket engine. I'm a single mom so make it simple?

My sons starter will not work on his 49cc pocket rocket it sounds like it is turning but makes clicking sounds, yes the battery is charged. Is this something I can change myself.
How do you change the electric starter on a 49cc pocket rocket engine. I'm a single mom so make it simple?
Well first of all, its hard to really tell you exactly how to do it since i'm not looking directly at it.

It shouldnt be that hard as long as you have a few simple tools.

What i would tell you to do is take it too a small engine repair shop (some place that works on chainsaws and lawnmowers would work) and see if you can walk over by the shop and ask the mechanics personally. Thats what i would do. If you ask the service advisor they'll just try and sell you service..

Or type the model of the engine into a internet search engine and you might get a breakdown. I'd also type up:

    ****engine*model*here*** starter replacement

    in a search engine.

Thats the best idea's i have for you.

    Good luck....

If you cant figure it out, take a picture of the top and side of the engine close enough where i could see the model/brand and shoot me off an instant message and i'll see what i can find for you!

A %26quot; Pocket Rocket%26quot; ??? Honey, I don't think that is what you mean..... um.... if your son is having trouble with his %26quot;pocket rocket%26quot; this is not the category for that...... maybe if you could name this so called %26quot;rocket%26quot; more accurately it would help.
yes where there any shims as spacer there hit lightly with hammer on the side first then try started it
the clicking sound is the solenoid which engages the starter, so it is getting electricity. First check the battery connections, look for corrosion and good connections (tight) then if that does not help, there is two bolts holding the starter on. With the battery disconnected remove the two bolts and the wires. to check the starter put a jumper cable to where the red wire came off (red one) and put the red and black on your car battery then go back to starter and touch the black cable to the housing (anywhere on the case, where the bolt hole is is probably easiest) the starter should spin, if it does, the battery is weak, if it does not order a new starter.

Starter not engaging flywheel everytime 502 w/m21-4spd?

latest update;thanks for all the responses.sometimes the starter will not engage flywheel,I have changed starter, solenoid and a few days ago put a new starter switch(or module?)also checked the voltage going to the starter from battery(12.5 volts)and the wire from the switch also 12.5 volts.

so I ran a jumper wire with a push botton switch so when this problem occurs I can hit the switch.so now when the starter will not engage I just hit the remote switch and it starts every time.now figure that one out!

2 much heat on starter solenoid put external solenoid ford solenoidon firewall get someone 2 help u wire it up kind of hard n2 ewxplain
Starter not engaging flywheel everytime 502 w/m21-4spd?
THIS PROBLEM IS NOT FROM HEAT IT CAN HAPPEN HOT OR COLD.ALSO WIRE GOING TO SOLENOID HAS 12.5 VOLTS.

if you are talking about solenoid engagement then its the key switch or the wiring from the switch to the solenoid.

But your quick fix works so you might as well leave it at that.

How long will my starter last? Had to start it by turning the key while hitting the starter with a hammer.?

never had a problem with my truck starting before, I've had it for two years, but four days ago my starter was broke. i've started my truck around 20 times since. I was wondering if this would be a recurring problem. should I change my starter?
How long will my starter last? Had to start it by turning the key while hitting the starter with a hammer.?
lol, it won't last too long if you keep hitting it with a hammer
How long will my starter last? Had to start it by turning the key while hitting the starter with a hammer.?
No, I am sure it will just fix itself.
change the starter before you get stuck completely
Same problem I had with my Explorer - it went on intermittently for about a week - I procrastinated - then one day......well, I think you know the rest of the story.

Get it replaced asap before you get stranded.
If you're already hitting the starter with a hammer then you need to replace it before that solenoid inside fails completely.
    Go get another starter!!

How do you change the starter on a 1993 Mercury Villager?

Place the front end of vehicle on ramps, if not, jack up each side in front and place on Jack Stands.Set emergency brake and block wheels.Disconnect neg cable battery.Ford/Mercury starters usually are held by only two bolts/metric. You will need metric wrenches and or sockets. There may also be a bracket for more support. After dropping starter, remove cable.Replace with new starter or remanufactured in reverse.Easy job.Maybe an hour of labor. Good Luck PS: You may want to wear safety goggles as rust and dirt will be falling

make sure you wires and connections are clean and when you attach the starter make sure the housing is clean also, use some contact cleaner, but disconnect the battery 1st. and also clean the ground cable where it connects to your engine block (striker plate) BTW carb cleaner works well also, just make sure your battery is disconnected for your safety!

Starter problem 1981 Chevy 1/2 ton?

Vehicle: 1981 Chevy 1/2 ton (Scottsdale)

    Specs: 305ci (according to VIN);

At about the end of my wits on this one...

Problem: Starter sounds like it's trying to tear teeth off the flywheel.

    Attempts to resolve:

Changed starter. worked for about a week, then started happening again.

Shimmed starter. worked about a week, problem again.

Got new bolts. good for a week, problem again.

Was able to realign and each time it happened and then problem again.

Got bigger bolts, this time size and installation by my mechanic.

Worked for about a week and today same thing.

Possible pattern: I've noticed that the problem doesn't happen unless the truck has been stopped for only 5 minutes and then started again. The problem has never begun again if the truck is left overnight without starting or at least a few hours.

The flywheel has all of its teeth and is in great shape (though not for long if this keeps happeneing.)

Any help or insight will be greatly appreciated.
Starter problem 1981 Chevy 1/2 ton?
    Strange problem indeed!

The weird part is the pattern of the problem.

Is the starter dragging,or is there an actual starter drive to flywheel meshing problem.

It is heat related. That's why it does it only on a restart after not sitting very long.

    Is the engine running hot?

    Is the timing set correctly?

Any modifications to the engine that have raised the compression?

I know that I'm answering a question with more questions, but I am trying to offer some things to look at.

Also check to make sure that the battery is good.

Make sure all of the cables, positive and negative are clean and tight.

Check the negative cable at the engine block. Grounds are very important and can cause unusual problems.

    Hope this helps.
Starter problem 1981 Chevy 1/2 ton?
Check the teeth on the bendix drive in the starter and if it shows any signs of wear replace it.

I would have bet on your flywheel/flex plate being messed up on the teeth. the mechanic said it was OK????

Then put in a new starter bendix drive, they are crap and can be bad out of the box.

A qualified rebuilding shop can check if the arm from the solenoid is cracked/bent when changing the drive bendix. hey it happens and kicks local tech butts when it does!

Man I still would want to see the teeth on the flywheel/flexplate, you have had the problem so long that something has got to have happened to it.

Good Luck, It ain't a real mystery, I swear.

    ASE Auto tech 30 years
Replace starter with ONLY NEW AC/DELCO!! I can't begin to tell you how many junk autozone, o'reilly's, pep boys, etc %26quot;reman%26quot; starters I have seen bad out of the box. Double check ring gear on flex plate and make sure that the starter mounting area on the block is not cracked. Also, for what its worth, make sure you don't have a bad head gasket. Coolant can leak into cylinder and cause a hydraulic lock effect. I have seen this happen and literally break the starter off of the block. Good luck.
sounds like maybe it is getting to hot and breaking down. maybe the exhaust is running to close to the starter and the heat is affecting the starter. not sure just a guess. but be sure to let us know. never heard of this problem before.
Bad cables can do that. A bad connector will heat up and reduce the current to the starter. It kicks in when you turn the key, but the voltage drops right away and you don't get good engagement. It works better when it's cold because the bad connector has a chance to cool down. It would be the battery/solenoid, solenoid/starter or ground cable.
One of the first things you should check is the timing, if it is set too far advanced the engine will fight itself trying to start when hot, it won't do this cold . Also GM put a little brace between the starter and the block at the end of the starter if this is missing the starter could mis-align causing the gear gnashing. Third make sure you are putting in the right starter, a 305 has a smaller flexplate than a 350 so you should be sure you do indeed have a 305 as opposed to a 350.

About how much would it cost to replace a locked up motor in a 1999 accord lx?
Pardon me for backing up in this, but from the description I'm not sure you've really established the motor is seized. If you put a socket on the crank bolt and try to turn the engine (always CCW in that vintage of Honda, like you're loosening the bolt) and it feels like you are trying to turn a big solid chunk of metal, it is indeed seized. Don't worry about the bolt actually coming loose - believe me, people pray to foreign gods that they could get that bolt loose!

If it is seized, I think others will have some good sources. A used motor from a wrecking yard would be a good bet but I don't know the labor cost for it.

take it to the machanic, don't mess with it , it might cost u more if you mess up something
A starter replacement is pretty much un-bolting the old one and put the new one on like you found the old one.
Peice of cake. You will need to jack the vehicle up so that you can get underneath the front end of the vehicle. The started should be a cylinder looking device. It is a easy to take off but a pain in the butt to put the new one back on. They put the bugger in the smallest place. I have only put a starter on a camaro but it is virtually the same for every car.
First before you touch the starter, disconnect the negative/ground wire from the battery. The wire to the starter is always hot, even with the car off and keys removed, and you can get a serious shock from touching it. Replacing a starter is one of the easiest pieces on a car to replace, provided you can get to it easily. Just jack the car up on level ground with the emergency brake on and something to act as wheel chocks and place the car on stands. Next disconnect the wires going to the starter and label them so you will put them on the correct terminals when you install the new starter. Remove the bolts holding the starter onto the transmission bell housing and then pull the starter out. Clean the contacts on the wires to remove corrosion and install in reverse order. One important thing to remember is to not over-tighten the bolts. Some vehicles are very finicky about how tight the mounting bolts should be, otherwise you could cause the starting motor gear to mesh with the flywheel. This causes the starter to make an awful grinding noise and severely reduces its life. Tighten any nuts holding wires on to just over hand tight, otherwise you could damage the solenoid. Remember to reconnect the battery.

My car is not starting . new battery new starter?
For an engine to start, you will need to have gasoline through fuel injection pump to the cylinders, you will need to have spark from spark plug. If new battery and new starter still not start your car, try to check the gasoline pressure, also see if the spark plug actually generates spark.
hubby (mechanic) said check fuel filter and the plugs and wires. If they are original they may not be sparking and need changed.

If it is just clicking but not cranking you can get a replacement solenoid plunger and a set of contacts for far cheaper than buying a whole new starter. The contacts in the solenoid wearing out is a known problem with the NipponDenso offset-gear reduction starter but luckily it is a cheap and easy fix also. I have provided 1 link of many that sell the contacts.

How do i change a starter %26amp; tune up?
Don't get lazy make sure you disconnect the battery first. I find if their is anymore than one wire running to a terminal (common on older machinery and cars here in Australia) zip tie them together, also mark everything especially the first time its so much better than guessing with electrical you rarely get a second chance.Do the plugs and leads one at a time can't mix them up that way (I've been laughed at for this but have NEVER had a car not start because I've confused No1 for No2)

Good luck take your time and enjoy the satisfaction of a job well done.
How do i change a starter %26amp; tune up?
first undo the batterie terminals then locate the starter unbolt the wires but remember which nub they came off then undo the two main bolts holding it up take it to autozone and have them test it to see if it is good if its bad replace the same way you took it off. as for spark plug and wires you need a spark plug socket just take your time and do 1 at a time so you dont mess up and get the firing order wrong.

How do I change the starter on a 1997 Dodge Neon?
First disconnect the battery. Then remove the cables/wires from the starter itself. There is usually two bolts holding the starter on. Remove these and snake the thing out. if you are lucky it will come straight out. Some Hondas the easiest way is put the car on a lift and take some of the suspension apart. If it looks like it will best come out the bottom, jack the thing up and put it on stands, or run it up on ramps and block the rear wheels.

What tools do i need to change a starter in a 1987 delta oldsmobile?

socket wrench, sockets, but there needs to be a physical inspection to see before really anyone can answer this question. You may have to take out some other things just to get to the starter.
What tools do i need to change a starter in a 1987 delta oldsmobile?
87 olds used both metric and american nuts and bolts, Basic hand tools are all that is required to replace a starter.
What tools do i need to change a starter in a 1987 delta oldsmobile?
A socket set with a few extensions, possibly some crescent wrenches, and a pair of pliers. You shouldnt need anything fancy.
Jack and jackstands, or better yet, wheel ramps.

5/16 socket to remove negative battery cable. (first)

1/2 or 9/16 socket and extension for mounting bolts.

11/32 socket for ignition to solenoid wire.

I forget how big for the battery cable to starter.

Or if metric, pretty close to those sizes, maybe 13/14 mm, and 8/10mm.

On these cars it is often easier to take the wires off from above before you drop the starter down.

And if you need to ask these questions, you better go here too. :-)

How to change a starter on a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

There might be a couple ways to do it. I have heard of taking off the exhaust, and removing the starter solenoid. The easiest way that I have found is to unbolt the starter completely and let it rest on the exhaust. Then there is a O2 sensor right behind where the starter lays. You should remove that. Below the O2 sensor is a little bracket with some wires. Remove the screw that holds the bracket on and let it hang. You should be able to wiggle the starter between the frame and exhaust. I takes a little persuading but it will come out. Good luck!

On a scale of 1 for easy and 10 for difficult, it's about a 2.
How hard is it to change the starter of a 2001 Ford Taurus?
I agree with LeAnne... not hard at all. I did one outside in the cold for a friend.... took longer to get the part and tools together than it took to do the job.

Starter motor on y reg ford galaxy?

Starter motor on y reg ford galaxy?
You dont say what year Galaxy, but as I remember they pretty much all are sitting yo low to crawl under. So that said you need to make sure to have a floor jack, jack stands, or ramps. I cant remember which side its on and as to the level of difficulty, That can also vary by what engine is in the car, and its not hard as long as you have the tools needed and have the capability AND the most important part PAITENCE,,, Dont get worked up and pissed off if things dont go as fast as you want them too.

NOW If You can change a starter, then you can save yourself alot of money too, if your willing to learn something else when you do the starter. DONT Buy a new or rebuilt starter,,,, Just buy the Brushes, and change them out. I know a new starter for my Explorer is about $129.00, The brushes cost about $6.00, If you are not sure ask around and talk to guys at the Auto parts stores, If you do the brushes prepare to get dirty and greasy, but its well worth the savings. I was gonna e-mail you and give you more details how to do it but you have that options disabled. Feel free to email me if you like I will tell you more.

not done this one myself either. as far as I am aware its standard procedure and fairly straightforward for any competent DIY man who can safely handle a spanner. do use the normal safety axle stands and do NOT work under any vehicle on a jack.

it will have 3 bolts securing starter motor to the block and two cables. one fairly large and one thin.

disconnect these first. (replace last in order of removing thin one off first and replacing, thin wire on last)

it isn't too bad if you can get plenty of access under the vehicle but can be a bit fiddly. use a 13mm socket or ratchet spanner. the thin wire should? be 10mm. (may be a push on pull off )

ideally pop along to local library and have a look in a workshop manual. not sure if there are any online pictures eg how to on a galaxy?

  • How do you change the starter on a mk2 mondeo turbo as the engine mount is in the way of 1 of the bolts?

to do this you will need to remove the mount.

jack up the engine to take the weight and then remove the mount this will allow the access to the stater.

How do I change the starter in a 1993 Chevy Suburban?

1st disconnect the battery. After that go ahead and jack up the passenger side and place a jack under that side to stabilize it in case of jack failure. This is the side you will be working on. Next you will need a 9/16 socket and racket 3/8 drive is perfect. Loosen the 2 bolts that hold it to the block. Then pull starter back and rest on y-pipe. At this time you can easily disconnect the 2 wires on the back of the starter solenoid. The first one is a big cable that comes from the battery. It should be a 5/8%26quot; wrench or socket, it can vary in size, just check and remove with proper size tools. Then the signal wire is the small wire disconnect it, it will be much smaller. After that pull it out and repeat the process in reverse. This is a very easy job, I would suggest wearing safety glasses because of the rust and dirt that will fall into your eyes while doing this. Good Luck!

un hook all the wire from the starter then un bolt the 2 bolts and drop it and reverse the process

Changing the starter on that vehicle is so simple that I would not take it to a garage. You don't even need to jack up the suburban to have access.

Josh's answer is correct. Disconnect the battery first. Sparks off the live pole can surprise you if the battery is still connected. If you have any doubt, buy the Chilton's or Haynes manual as a guide. The starter will probably come w/ some shims. These probably won't be necessary. Just put it back the way it came out and see how that works.
take the battery ground cable off the battery go under the engine and find the starter, undo the cables and undo the 2 bolts holding the starter to the engine.reverse this and be sure you have the correct number or shims installed when you put the starter back on otherwise it may not line up to the flywheel and chew the gear up on the flywheel or the starter replace the wires reinstall the ground cable to the battery good luck

What causes draining batteries w/in couple hrs and electrical going haywire?

Have a 2001 GMC Sierra 2500 HD Diesel. Will not start, charged batteries, changed starter. Batteries stay charged for a couple hrs and when i turn the key the cylenoid is trying to engage and the electrical goes haywire.

Anyone have any suggestions what I could search next?
What causes draining batteries w/in couple hrs and electrical going haywire?
I would go to a Batteries Plus, I believe they diagnose battery related issues for free.
What causes draining batteries w/in couple hrs and electrical going haywire?
How old are the batteries? They do wear out to the point where they cannot be fully charged and/or do not %26quot;hold%26quot; a charge. also, clean and tighten all battery cable connections. Even a perfect battery cannot conduct its energy through corroded/loose cable/terminals.
It sounds like you have a short somewhere.. If you take off the neg or Positive and you see sparks that will tell you if you do have a short or something is on..
