I have a 91' ford ranger and i put in a new starter but it still won't start. What's wrong with it.?

when i changed the starter, my battery was dead, so i had it jumped started and it ran fine. but now when i want to start it again; i get nothing. No lights, sounds, i turn the key all they way over and nothing

Bad alternator (not charging the battery) or a bad battery (not accepting or holding the charge from the alternator)

Hmmm, tough to say. If you are sure you installed the starter correctly you might want to consider looking at the alternator. Perhaps there is a short.
I have a 91 ranger as well and just replaced the altenator because of the same thing you are explaining put a full charge on the battery and take it to the parts store they can probably test the altanator for you about 160.00 for the part.
I'm with Kirk , probably a dead cell in your battery, If you have a Autozone in your area they'll check your battery %26amp; alternator and tell you what you need...just have to jump it again and drive it down there, good luck.
