How do I change a starter on a 2001 Plymouth Neon?

disconnect the battery, remove the 13mm nut holding the positive cable to the starter, remove the solenoid wire connector from the starter, remove the 2 15mm bolts holding the starter to the transmission, remove the starter. neons do not use any starter shims.

It's right on the front of the engine down low. Pretty easy to get to. Disconnect the battery ground connection first. Disconnect the wires from the starter, then under the car, remove the two bolts holding the starter in. Install the new one in reverse order. Connect the battery last.

If it is just clicking but not cranking you can get a replacement solenoid plunger and a set of contacts for far cheaper than buying a whole new starter. The contacts in the solenoid wearing out is a known problem with the NipponDenso offset-gear reduction starter but luckily it is a cheap and easy fix also.
