How to change starter in 1962 Cadillac Fleetwood Series 60?

I took the old starter out and bought a re manufactured oem starter. Can i just bolt the new one right up? What have I heard about checking lash with flywheel? Is this necessary and if so how do you do it because you can%26#039;t see where the teeth on the starter meet the flywheel? Thanks!|||Try it first. See how it sounds. May need to shim it.|||Some old cars had to shim the starter so the starter gear lined up w/ the ring gear. Measure from the mounting surface to where the gear is extended to make sure they are the same. If so, install it.If not, shim as necessary.
