Changing the starter on my 2000 plymouth neon?

i have gotten off all of the harnesses and power wires, now when i loosen the lower bolt to remove the starter, there is a metal shield in the way not allowing the bolt to back all the way out so i can remove the starter, any ideas on how to get around this|||look and see if you cant remove the shield,or it may be bent ,all it is is a heat shield for the starter,i have always been able to get them off,someone may have bent that one,because it should clear the bolt,good luck.|||your welcome.
