How do i go about changing my starter on a 1997 volvo turbo 850?

its my first time changing a stater ,want to do it myself.|||Just make sure the starter is the problem. The transmission gear position sensors and the electrical portion of the ignition switches fail regularly and can cause a no crank condition.

RepairPal.com|||first buy a new one remove battery cables jack up car put a block or stand under it slide under remove bolts hold on the starter same time twist or turn it let it down some remover wires and that might work with most cars sometimes they might be something in the way of getting to it or letting it down then you have to remove that as well some will just drop right out others will have to twist and snake it around most are pretty easy|||Disconnect Battery. Pull out the radiator fan with the housing. You will see the starter on the side of the engine under the intake manifold. There are two bolts that go through the trans into the starter. Use a 14mm wrench or socket. On the back of the starter is a bracket that is held onto the block by a bolt with a 12mm head. Remove the wires from the starter and it will come right out. There are a couple of different starters. They will all work, but you may not be able to reuse the bracket that goes on the back of the starter.|||Disconnect the negative battery cable from battery.Remove the radiator fan by removing the two torx screws securing it.Remove anything attached to the fan and make note of location.Try to pull the rad. fan upwards carefully.The two lower torx screw securing the fan may need to be loosened but not completely removed.Some vacuum hoses need to be disconnected if in the way when pulling fan out and electrical connectors for fan.Once the fan is out the you%26#039;ll be able to remove the wires and bracket from the starter motor.There are two bolts that secure the motor to the trans. bell housing.I believe it%26#039;s a 14mm.The bolts are torqued down pretty tight.A box end wrench and another wrench to extend the length for leverage to break it loose.A ratchet and socket is can be used also.See what works best for u.When bolts are removed,carefully lift it up avoiding damaging any thing anything.Installation is the reverse order.Good luck!
